The CANQuest (tm) CAN be relentless and unforgiving in its journey and there is nothing like a visit to my maternal aunt & her husband's place in DC. Everyone is always after me to bring back OTWOA, but I enjoy the thrill of the hunt, the seeking of the new.

From the CAN: "Science of Rowdy"; "Pair with * Barbequed Meats/Steak * Spicy Casserole"; "14.5 deg P[,] 50 IBU[,] 19 SRM"; "Hailwood Motorcycle [-] Discovered in a rundown garage in Oxford, the Hailwood Motorcycle was part of a unique collection owned by the 'best motorcycle road racer ever.' Detailed & polished, it awaits its next fearless legendary rider."

I got so excited by the loud Crack! that I decided to go with an inverted Glug. Oops! The richness of the foaming action was too much to handle & even when I backed off, I still got some coming over the lip of the glass. It settled into two-plus fingers of dense, deep-tan/light-brown head that slowly fell away, leaving great sticky lacing in its wake. Color was a Coppery-Brown (SRM = > 17, < 22) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had the hallmark minty pepperiness of rye & my mouth began to water unCANtrollably in CANticipation! Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but close. The taste was immediately spicy with the black pepper/black powder bite of rye, but then, it suddenly came with a cooling blast of mint, more toward spearmint than peppermint! Oh, man, I have had this on draft in DC, but to sit and savor one from a CAN is a singular experience. Finish was dry and really refreshing. I could fill a beach-bound cooler with this and have no regrets (unless I run out).

Aggressive pour from a can resulted in a long lasting thick light mocha colored head. An aroma of caramel, rye bread, coffee and whiffs of cedar. Tastes of toffee with a faint black pepper background. The hop flavor was very mild. The mouthfeel was light to medium. Overall, a decent lightly flavored rye beer that is was easy to drink.

Mostly an opaque amber pour with a wet cream colored head that transfers nicely to spotty, sticky lace. Nose is primarily spicy rye and bread malts with hops present but mostly in the background.

The hops show up more in the onset and aftertaste, although the malt balls out in the middle. Solid rye flavor throughout makes this true to style if not outstanding. Pretty well balanced, I find this a solid drinking rye with copious flavor. If you are a rye guy, try.

Has a dark color with a tinge of caramel with good head retention. Smells sweetly of grain with a sweet initial sip and a strong dry taste of rye at the end of the swallow. Reminiscent of Lagunitas Lil' Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale, though not quite as sweet. Very easy beer to drink.

On tap at Nationals Park in Washington, DC.

Pours a clear dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, rye, and earth aromas. Taste is much the same with toast, rye, and earth flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of rye bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a great rye forward presence that comes through especially well in the smell.

Serving type: on tap.

A nice rye ipa, a beefed up malt profile that adds a complimentary flavor profile to the already spicy rye. Hop forward, though slightly single-noted. Not for everyone, but something I'd drink again.

Just a good beer from Atlas. Easy to drink, clean all the way through. One of the best ales made in the DC region. Deserves another look from this community.
