Very Good
Half Mast QIPAHalf Mast QIPA
Notes: The goal was to create a beer with flavor, balance and body at only 2.8%, a quarter IPA, QIPA if you will. Heavily hopped but with low bitterness this beer pops with notes of mango and grapefruit. The perfect summer beer.

An interesting one with such a low ABV. Pours a orange cloudy colour with a white foamy head that leaves lacings. Aromas of orange, grapefruit & citrus. Taste is very summery with orange, grapefruit, citrus & tropical fruit present as well as grass & hops. Aftertaste is where it's let down I feel with a summery finish with medium bitterness. Very good effort, and a beer I could have a second of that's for sure.

The colour is pale copper (20 EBC), the liquid got some small particles floating around in it. The two finger head is off-white and airy, it sinks slowly leaving some lacing on the glass.

The smell is malty with some caramel, quite a lot of dusty earth and milk.

The taste is mid-bitter with some sweetness in the background. Dry exotic fruit flavours, some earthy-dusty notes. Medium body. Hints of leather in the bitter aftertaste as well as dried fruits and brown bread. The long finish is dominated by chemical bitterness.

Sharp carbonation, small long-lived bubbles. Mid-smooth liquid.

An highly unbalanced beer.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Jan 2014. Picked up a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. This is a low-ABV IPA - all the flavour of a regular IPA but with only a fraction of the booze. Summer drinking perfection.

Poured into a Delirium chalice. Bottle conditioned. A hazy orange-amber hue with chunky sediment and medium carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before settling as a surface layer. Aroma of fruity hop notes with hints of grapefruit, orange peel, citrus, white grape, tropical fruit, light caramel and earthy yeast. It smells amazing.

Tastes of juicy hops and subtle malt with a light, bitter finish. Notes of grapefruit, orange peel, lime, citrus, white grape, melon, tropical fruit, grass, light caramel, earthy yeast and stewed hops. Mildly spicy, with a restrained, hoppy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry - hop oils stimulate the palate. Pleasant carbonation and decent body. Slightly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of fruity aromatic hops, mild bitterness and earthy yeast.

Excellent - tastes like a fully-hopped American IPA. The only sign that the ABV is lower than usual is the slightly thinner body, but even this isn't particularly obvious. It looks great, with an aroma and flavour dominated by bright, fruity hop notes. Decent mouthfeel. A superb effort - would that every lower-ABV brew tasted this good. A hophead's dream; grab one if you come across it.
