Can: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with light retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet cocoa notes with some black chocolate notes. Taste is also dominated by sweet cica notes with some black chocolate notes with a watery finish. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Great beer but not sure the nitro treatment was required.

355 ml can served cold into a tulip. LCBO purchase for $5.40 CDN.
Appearance - An aggressive pour yields a midnight black color with a big robust two finger frothy head (due to the nitro and aggression of the pour). Great staying power.
Smell - Slight coffee notes, rich bready malts giving the brew a decidedly cake like aroma and loads chocolate and a hint of pepper mixed in.
Taste - Fairly bitter dark chocolate with some bready qualities against giving it the feel of rich cake. A hint of pepper and spiciness at the end kicks it up. Long last semi bitter dark chocolate notes.
Mouthfeel - Rich, full and sensuous, like a slice of cake, carbonation is modest.
Overall - A nice way to take 2021 out with a bang, great flavor and nails the name, chocolate caribbean cake as the slight spiciness and richness with bready qualities give it a distinctly cake like flavor.

Thanks to corpulent (I think, or was it bonerhog?) for bringing this over, Halloween 2016.
Pours black, brown head, 1/2". Aroma was salty caramel, lesser burnt maltings, chocolate, dark and tropical fruit. Hmm.
Taste leaned on the dark fruit, bitter chocolate and lactose brown sugar caramel like feels more than anything. It has a lot more going on, not necessarily all good, than one would think looking at the appearance, you might have thought you were getting a standard non adjunct, possibly dry stout. Instead, its like a bakery's worth of ingredients. Unfortunately I thought the woody aspect of it didn't come through like I hoped, unless it was contributing to a little of that dark fruit bitterness I wasn't a fan of. Wanted more brown sugar and less lactose. I guess there were some 'experimental' hops but I don't know what flavors they were contributing to because they kept that mum. Was it the dark cherry or overripe passion fruit? Who knows. Lot going on here, almost too much in my book.

Black in color with a short-loved brown head and spotty lacing. Rather timid nose, but you do get a sense of malted milk balls, roast, fudge, and a faint whiff of cedar. In taste, there’s chocolate syrup up front, followed closely by a blanket of roast. Chocolate truffles. Glazed chocolate donuts. Malted milk balls. Quick citrusy hit. Very mild woody flavor that I’d liken to cedar. Long fudgey finish. Rich, heavy body that coats the mouth and feels slightly slick. Low carbonation. Pretty nice milk stout, very hedonistic and easily approachable.

Wow - this beer really tastes like chocolate cake! Fudgy, semi-sweet, and cakey - I've had lots of dessert stouts and stouts with a shit ton of ingredients, but this non-imperial 7.4% abv brew tastes like someone baked a box of Duncan Hines Devil's Food cake, and instead of frosting it, turned it into beer... A real winner...

Strong head production; so-so retention.
Brew smells much more potent than a single-range stout. The cacao nibs and wood are on full display, if you know to look for them, along with lovely tones of molasses, red grape, coffee, brown sugar, char, and licorice.
Flavor follows, with a surprising amount of char accompanying the woody tones, along with waves and waves of chocolate. Not a ton else going on, however, with lighter notes of caramel and red grape.
Relatively light-bodied on the palate, appropriate for the ABV. Smooth and slick.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high mocha colored head that quickly died down, leaving a collar consisting of medium-sized bubbles and some delicate lacing covering the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of cocoa nibs are present in the nose.
T: The taste is very chocolatey and has notes of cocoa nibs that contribute some sweetness to the flavors.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied and very thick on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer does a very good job at replicating the taste of chocolate cake.
Serving type: bottle

Burnt black with a soft tan blanket that settles to a thin ring, this starts with notes of smoky and woody cigar at first, as well as a good roasted malt. Smooth chocolate and marzipan come out after via a slick, medium body with a paper dry finish.
