L: amber in color head disappears instantly good carbonation clear but unfiltered
S: its got a good pilsner bready smell with a spicy kick to it
T: it actually surprised me its a good mellow pilsner bread taste that ends with a hint of green chile i was expecting a little sour with the tomatillos but its not it has a little spice at the back of your throat
F: medium bodied medium carbonation
O: the first few sips are good but as it went on it got slowly more peppery than beery and couldnt really finish it

Deep brown in color with no head to speak of. Nose is slightly pungent with a peppery hint. Taste is pungent with a warming that hits fairly quickly. Good chili beer.

This beer was so very good when it was fresh from the keg at the brewery. I liked it so much I bought 2 4-paks and had to mix them with Clamato to finish them off. Disappointed in the canned product big time.

Picked up a growler of this at GS 1221 in San Antonio yesterday. I'm not a huge fan of chili beers, but everything I've had from Martin House has been fantastic, so I was hoping this was no different. They came through for me.
Poured into a snifter, the beer is an opaque orange color. Thin head and no lace. Not much to look at, but it could be because it's been sitting in a growler overnight. The nose is spicy, with a strong pepper scent. Some citrus as well, and maybe some ginger. The taste is really quite nice. A muted sweetness up front, nice and malty with a strong pepper flavor that takes over mid-way and lingers through the finish. It flushes up into your nose and lets you know that green chiles are present. Mouthfeel is crisp but smooth.
I am not usually a huge fan of chili beers, but this is an exception. Martin House has restored my faith in beer, because everything they do is incredible. They are experimenting with some great flavors (pretzel stout, anyone?) and succeeding with every try. Great beer here. Well balanced, nuanced, and just downright delicious.
