Notes:
In Dante's Inferno, the Acheron river forms the border of Hell. At MHBC, Acheron is our deeply dark and ravishing imperial stout. Aged six months in whiskey barrels and unblended for maximum barrel flavor, this 12% abv stout will satiate your sinuous desires for something bold, burly, boozy, and barbarous. Acheron is brewed with black malts, black barley, chocolate malts, Crystal malts and oats. Its finished with brown sugar and Columbus hops to balance its leviathan body. Drinking this beer will help Charon determine your fate.

Pitch black pour complete with a brown finger of foam. Very sweet brown sugar and whiskey lead the nose, chocolate, vanilla, and malt support. The taste has these elements in two separate camps: the super sweet brown sugar, whiskey, molasses, and vanilla vs the malt, dark chocolate and slight roast. The problem is these factions clash, stealing depth from one another. Thinner bodied and warmer but not all the way to hot, but very smooth and the sweetness rounds out well into the maltwork.

Two can box brewed 08/31/21. Enjoyed using snifter. Rich dark color. A rich aroma of chocolate, dark roasted malt, and molasses. Very sweet smelling. Faintly alcoholic. Taste is strong molasses and dark fruit like raisins, dates, figs and prunes with bourbon finishing notes. Only slight hint of bitterness. A smooth brew with slight heat and quiet alcohol. Super sipping beer. The taste is fruity complex, satisfying and very tasty. Will be looking for more repeats of this great beer.

I had this very tasty beer at a local pub while visiting with a friend. It was poured from tap into a snifter. Rich dark brown color with a creamy brown head and good curtain lacing. Pleasant smell and taste of dark chocolate. Taste of molasses and a hint of cherry cordial. Dark fruit, raisins and prunes. Smooth rich feel. A beer to sip and savor.

Pour is jet black with a nice finger of cinnamon head that fades to a ring around the glass
Nose is bourbon, vanilla, coconut, roasted malt, oak, plum
Taste is chocolate, dark roasted malt, hint of vanilla, coffee, latte, fudge, hint of sweet bourbon on the finish. Great beer. Lingering creamy dark chocolate

Black as coal with a tan head. Nose is initially overwhelming with whiskey, but that fades somewhat with time. Initial taste is chocolate nibs, slight coconut and whiskey. ABV does not over take the bear nor is it fatiguing on the palate. Great beer!

Canned 01/22/18 poured into a snifter. Rich dark color. A rich aroma of chocolate and molasses. Very sweet smelling. Faintly alcoholic. Taste is strong molasses and dark fruit like raisins, dates, figs and prunes. Only slight hint of bitterness. A smooth brew with a hint of heat and alcohol is well hidden. Overall this a fabulous sipping beer. The taste is complex, satisfying and abundantly tasty. Share it with a friend.

7 June 2020 - Beer #113
Corona Day #87
Price: $6.99 on Tavour
Appearance: 5 - very attractive stout. Super black, dark tan head didn't hang around, but there's a pleasant ring left and it laces beautifully.
Nose: 4 - smells like a fine imperial stout with no barrel.
Taste: 4 - tastes like a fine imperial stout with no barrel. Maybe a tad vinous?
Mouth: 5 - quite thick and chewy. Sticky too.
Overall: 4 - why just 4 months, though? Stick it in there for a year and you might develop a real winner.
Stay safe out there, my friends.
Cheers!

Pours black with a quarter inch tan head that settles to a ring quickly and leaves minimal lacing. Smell is amazing, very whiskey forward. Smells and tastes of whiskey, oak, vanilla, bittersweet chocolate, dark fruits, roasted, malts, coffee, toffee, tobacco and some char. Full bodied, very light car, thick and chewy mouth feel, dry and mildly bitter finish.

Look - super black in color and pours quite thick out of the 12 oz. can
Smell - very boozy - 12% alcohol very apparent - sweet chocolate coffee toffee tobacco campfire aroma
Taste - nice blast of syrupy chocolate and coffee at first sip - alcohol creeps in - huge amounts of charred oak from the barrel aging - very rich caramel, prune, raisin, whiskey, and vanilla. Stays sweet throughout. This is a rich dessert beer for sure.
Feel - nice and thick from pour to downing - nice full bodied/chewy beer.
Overall - This is an amazing beer - so many complex flavors here - the base beer is so flavor without all of the barrel aged flavors brought in - I was pleasantly surprised with this one - the whiskey bite was pretty strong but this one was brewed 8 months prior to drinking... some more aging in the bottle would help smooth this one out a bit - no complaints though, this beer was very enjoyable and I hope to be able to grab one (or 2 in a box) again - even if I have to take a road trip to Fort Worth, Texas.

Appearance: Arrives pitch black with a one finger beige head that dissipates quickly, leaving a few strands
Smell: Whiskey, roast, oak, chocolate, vanilla and dark fruit
Taste: Roast, chocolate and dark fruit forward with the whiskey, oak and vanilla tones building; surprisingly fruity, after the swallow but the finish is more influenced by the barrel
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low to moderate carbonation; some warmth in the gullet
Overall: I enjoyed this beer, particularly the dark fruit element that reminded me of an RIS

12oz can dated 1/22/18 - 12.4%ABV - 15.99 from Craft Pride in Austin, TX
This came from a 2pk can boxed up like a FW bomber. Very cool packaging. The beer pours out a very dark brown with a light brown tuft of foam. Barrel on the nose: vanilla, wood, booze. Sweet whiskey up front in the taste with loads of cocoa. Silky smooth. Reminds me a lot of the first time I had BA Plead the 5th.

Wow. I wasn't expecting a 5/5 beer when I bought this the other day, but let me tell you this is a perfect stout. Loved everything about it. It's thicc af and tastes like chocolate moose aged in whiskey.
