As I'm not a porter fan, this isn't an ale I'll rave about, but it was pleasant nonetheless

A dark brown beer with an off white creamy head.

The smell is lightly roasted with candisugar, plums and figs. There is a light fruitiness from the yeast, a typical Belgian smell.

The taste is a caramel, chocolate and candi sugar. This reminds of chocolate and plums. The mouthfeel is a bit thin. The yeast adds a nice Belgian fruitiness.

Bottle from Brewers Haven. Pours out a dark brown with small foamy beige head. Was hoping this would be better than the "From Heaven", but not so. Malty, roasty aroma close to porter. Taste also seems to mimic a porter, hints of chocolate, but a bit of Belgian yeast turns this back into Belgian territory. The more I taste it, this seems awfully close to a porter.

Bottle bought in March. Poured dark brown with golden as opposed to red undertones, and a thin layer of ivory head that remained as a scrim and laced the glass. Aromas of cherry, sawdust, a sour yeast note, a grassy herbal smell. Toasted caramel malt, red fruits, a coriander and sour note, just a bit of hop spice with little bitterness. Nice creamy feel but with a clean finish, coating but not cloying.

Dark brown body with ruby edges and a tan head. Ginger, brown bread, grain and fruit juice to the nose. Tastes of dark, overripe and slightly soured fruits, cranapple juice, spent grain, spice, slight alcohol heat and oily hop bitterness at the very back. A bit of a metallic, nutty character later on. Medium-bodied and slightly rought at the edges. I've had better and I've had a helluva lot worse. A good Belgian for chillin' with the devil, and I'm sure plenty of work went into getting that ABV just perfect.

A - Dark plum\rust color. Very thin foam head on this. Not much lacing at all. Has a slight sticky coating of the glass as it swirls.

S - Scents of dry sherry, dark fruits (I could smell some plums and dates). Has a spicy smell along with rich malt notes.

T - Nothing I'm too excited about. There is an initial sweetness of fruit sugars that combines with some roasted malt. I found the combination a bit harsh and not exactly smooth. Does have a complexity of flavors, but it seemed muddled.

M - Balance could use some tuning on this. Does have a medium body that is pretty comfortable to drink. Not as good with food as it is as a standalone beer to drink slowly.

O - Not a bad beer, but one I wouldn't recommend because there are better examples out there.
