Pours a very dark brown, almost black. Smells heavy, bourbon, syrupy, black banana, and a little alcoholic nose as well. Tastes like burnt grains, bourbon notes, juicy milk-chocolate notes, with a mocha finish. Little to no lingering tastes, lighter than expected, very smooth and drinkable for the ABV.

750 ml mini growler from the brewery. Poured into a Hammerheart tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours midnight black with a moderate amount of carbonation. Slight finger of tan head which fades into a thin patchy layer.

Smell: A rich, roasty, and sweet dark malt driven aroma with a scent of chocolate and whiskey. Dark roasted barley malt with a scent of dark chocolate, coffee, smoke, charred toast, biscuit, rye, grains, and caramel along with yeast. Barrel hints of bourbon whiskey, oak, vanilla, and wood. Subtle dark fruit and hops. A very good rich aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a rich, roasty, and sweet dark malt driven taste with notes of chocolate, smoke, and whiskey. Dark roasted barley malt with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, smoke, biscuit, rye, burnt toast, grains, caramel, and toffee along with some yeast. Barrel notes of bourbon whiskey, oak, vanilla, and wood. Light notes of dark fruit and some subtle hop bitterness. A pretty good rich taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Rich and creamy with some moderate booze heat.

Overall: A pretty good Stout. Good mix of chocolate, smoke, and barrel flavor.

This place rocks. The brewer is one of the most skilled around and this stout is almost one that could be a standard for others.

This jet black beer has a wonderful, slightly subtle aroma of roast barley, charred oak, smoked malt, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, cherry, raisin, and cranberry. The flavor takes the aroma and turns the dial to 10, with spicy rye bread, charred oak, smoke, coffee, milk chocolate, and bourbon, with hints of vanilla, cherry, cranberry, raisin and cider-like spices, ending in a delicious bourbon flavored finish with a touch of hops. The mouthfeel of this beer is decadent and full, like rich velvet that washes over the tongue in the most luxurious way. This truly is a king among stouts, rich and flavorful and BOLD.
