From the 22 oz bomber in a snifter. This solid scotch ale pours a
rich and dark brownish mahogany with a very nice head of khaki foam
that subsides to a thick ring and layer with subtle lacing. Nose gives way to
notes of heavy smoked peat malts, subtle cherries, toffee, caramel, blonde licorice,
and touches of biscuit. Flavors follow the nose with a cherry tinged toasted malt
surrounded on all sides by smoked peat malts and subtle peach notes with toffee
and brown sugars around light breaded malts. Solid mouth feel for the style;
medium body, lightly coating, smooth, lightly warming, light carbonation, and
a smoked malt finish.

Overall, a SOLID brew from a brewery I would love to visit.

Cheers

L - teku pour. Dark cola brown with ruby hues. Snowflake white fizzy head

S - Smells like fermented corn... very distinctly like bud light but stronger... wtf? There might be a faint smokeyness to it but it's predomitely a buttery corn like smell.

T - nice smoke up front. Light and quaffable. Grainy malt neither bitter nor sweet. Taste somewhat reminiscent of a buckwheat pancake. Reminds me of schlenkerla helles but more peaty.

F - dry, very dry. High levels of carbonation. Leaves your mouth with a dusty smokiness.

Overall - I don't not enjoy this. I think I had higher expectations for this brewery but this is my first of a few to try from hammerheart. I foresee promising things with the others that I try given the craftsmanship that this was brewed with.

750 ml mini growler from the brewery. Poured into a Hammerheart tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours a dark brownish ruby. Moderate amount of bubbles and a slight finger of tan head that quickly fades away.

Smell: A toasty and smokey malt forward aroma with a scent of smoke, caramel, and biscuit. Toasted malt with a scent of smoke, toast, caramel, toffee, biscuit, and grains with yeast. Good hints of peat along with a little anise. Sweet scent of brown sugar, molasses. and vanilla. Light hints of floral hops. A really nice rich aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a rich, toasty, and smokey malt driven taste with notes of smoke, caramel, and biscuit. Toasted malt with a taste of smoke, toast, toffee, caramel, biscuit, and grains along with yeast. Some notes of peat, leather, and anise. Sweet taste of molasses, brown sugar, and vanilla. Some earthy hop bitterness towards the finish. A really good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium to heavy bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy and fairly chewy with a drying finish.

Overall: A really good Scotch Ale. Good mix of smoke and caramel malt flavor.

Another knockout!! How do you compare this to bottled beer?! There is none. Unless of course if they decide to bottle it.
As with most of their brews, this one is a very full-bodied, dark, smokey, and almost chewey beer.

Aroma is treacle sweet, with nutty, toasted notes, faint smoke.

Flavor is similar, though the smoke is more pronounced. It's not overly phenolic, though. Just seems a little lacking in malt character, for a scotch ale.

Flaming Longship - HammerHeart Brewing Company. Poured from a 750 ml growler into a snifter, this brew's head is two fingers thick and eggshell brown, with solid lacing, and a jet black body. I can't even shine an LED flashlight through it!

I smell a generous helping of sweeter scotch, along with masterfully roasted malts and grains. Just a bit of floral hop "pepperyness" at the end to level the playing field.

Tastes like much of the components described above, along with a sugar alcohol sweetness akin to vanilla. The smokey aftertaste really brings another dimension to this already-tasty beer. This is all aiding in masking the higher abv of this delightful offering.

The mouthfeel I'm picking up here is medium-heavy, with a fair amount of carbonation per this style. I'm loving the smokey aftertaste.

Overall, I'll give Flaming Longship - HammerHeart Brewing Company a 4.75. This would be ideal to kick back with after working outside in the freezing cold for hours and just melting into a comfortable piece of furniture. Huge thanks to @jrsaffert for the trade.

This is a decent smoked scotch ale except that it has a medicinal off-note present that really throws off the rest of the beer. I wouldn't bother trying this one again. Not a fan of the couple beers I've tried from this brewery.
