Bursting with Centennial hops and a higher than average malt bill for an IPA, this one is fully attenuated for dryness and boasts a distinct cherry smoke flavor on the back end. Like Surtr's Flame consuming the world in fire after the final Battle of Ragnarok, its color is burnt amber. All Year Long, Kegs Only.

Moderately strong aroma of citrus. Faint smoke.
Hazy-clear dark amber body, ample carbonation, and a ½ inch thick slightly off-white head with excellent retention, leaving thick rings of lacing.
The taste is old-school WCIPA. Strongly bitter with citrus and a bit of pine, a bit sweet. In the middle comes the light touch of smoke. The campfire smoke is done with a deft touch that complements rather than dominates the classic AIPA flavors. The finish is bitter and dry (the sweetness having disappeared), leading to lingering bitter citrus and smoke remaining in the aftertaste.
The body is moderate (for and IPA) with the expected dry bittering.
Overall, this is an old-school IPA, citrus and bitter, and it demonstrates the skill and confidence in the brewer's handling of the smoked malts to not allow them to overwhelm the IPA itself. Very well done.

On tap at the Hammerheart taproom. 13 oz. serving in a chalice.
Appearance: Color is a deep amber orange. Moderate amount of bubbles and about a finger of off white head which settles into a thin creamy layer.
Smell: A fruity and smokey hop driven aroma with a scent of citrus fruit and smoked malt. Citrus hop scent of orange peel, grapefruit, and tangerine. Some hints of piney and grassy hops. Malt hints of smoke, caramel, cracker, and grains. Scent of Belgian like yeast along with some sugar. A pretty good hoppy aroma.
Taste: Like it smells, a fruity and smokey hop forward taste with notes of citrus fruit and smoked malt. Upfront citrus hop notes of grapefruit, orange peel, tangerine, and lemon. Also some piney and grassy hop notes. Malt notes of smoke, caramel, grains, and cracker. Some spicy Belgian like yeast notes along with some candied sugar. A very nice taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy and fairly chewy with a drying finish.
Overall: A very nice smoked spin on an IPA. Nice blend of citrus hop and smoked malt flavor.

Appearance: Slightly hazy amber-orange, huge head.
Smell: Mild citrus, touch of smoke.
Taste: Starts somewhat sweet, then gives citrus hop flavor and a mild smoky finish.
Overall: Finally got around to reviewing Hammerheart's first beer. It's not on the menu too often at the brewery anymore. It's a nice balance of sweetness, citrus hops, and smoke. I seem to remember earlier batches being smokier, but this is probably better balanced and improves the drinkability.
