Just a mile or so of 35w sits Hammerheart it looks like a Scandinavian outpost, Norwegian flags and north land cabin look with a Lord of the Rings vibe its a unique place its dark and danky when you walk in colors of black and gun metal, barrels are visible thru a window with brew aging in them. Service was oh so friendly these guys like what they are doing, had 3 brews all were very good one Ba ,2 smoked, wish i lived closer cause i really liked this place and want to see what they offer on a regular basis. Headed north? well pull off at Lino Lakes. In the TC? its just a short drive north. I recommend this place

Finally stopped in on my way out of the Cities going camping. It was about 5 pm on Thursday, so not very busy...staff was really friendly. Unlike a lot of tap rooms in the cities, it wasn't a hipster vibe at all. It is a fairly small space, kind of dark and dennish...would probably be really cozy in the winter. The outdoor patio is okay -- kind of between the road and the building, partially shielded by some conifers. The beers, though, are outstanding. 10 on tap, available in full pours or 8 oz (as I recall) and a nice variety.

this might be my favorite brewery visit of the year. nothing ive ever experienced is like this place, and i adore it. almost wished i lived in minnesota so i could be a regular here, its that cool. in a little house up front with the small brewery behind some tinted glass in the back. tons of wood features like a hobbit hole, arched doorways, ornate wood carving, but still very humble in overall feel with barrels as tables and a lot of sweat equity obviously put into getting the place together. a front or side patio there with a few seats and surrounded by maturing pine trees, its gorgeous, earthy and special, homey and rustic. they have a theme with the beers, mostly or entirely barrel aged or smoked, and in some cases both. they probably had ten or so beers on, and all of them were insanely interesting, barrel aged english browns, smoked chocolate stouts, blueberry india pales, it was just so creative and inventive. all of the beers tasted as good as they sounded, and thats real rare. apparently the guy has brewed at haand, which explains how inspired and unique these beers are. guys working were all real nice, but it was more of a self service thing, so hard to really judge that one. other patrons were super nice and happy to help direct our brewery day around the city. overall this place is elite level, one of the best i have been to in this country. a must visit, i wish it was in denver. cant say enough about it.

This place is the tits. Right up my alley, metal music playing, Scandinavian theme. Amazing beer! To be frank I don't usually go after smoked beers that often, but I really enjoyed and appreciated the way they went about it. The Surtr's Flame was my favorite. They're definitely doing their own thing. Awesome down-to-earth people, a must visit!

Awesome place. Love their MO of producing Scandinavian-style and themed beer. They have some of the best barrel aged beer in the Twin Cities. I personally love their smokey, dark beer, but they stick to those styles mostly which might not make it a perfect place for everyone. Still, the folks are friendly and down to earth. It's not uncommon for the house music to transition from Scandinavian folk into progressively heavy death metal as the night goes on.

This place is great! Currently my favorite in Minnesota. Awesome atmosphere, friendly staff and kick ass beer! It's a little cozy, a few times there was nowhere for us to sit, but it was still worth the drive to get there. I also feel like that's part of it's charm. Bigger taproom does not always equal better.

First time there. $11 flights, and anything can be included including high gravity and BA beers. I got an RIS, two BA beers, and a red. Waitstaff was friendly. If I lived closer, I'd make this a regular place (I biked 35-40 miles to get there)

Love this place, the staff is great, the taproom is cool, the beer is unbelievably outstanding and it is close to home, what more do you want... The only thing is they need some more seating and the patio is small with no seating, but otherwise the place is great and I have yet to have a beer I did not like. I highly recommend this as a place to stop if you are in the Twin Cities area, it is not far off 35W on the north side of the cities, you won't be disappointed.
