Double dry-hopped with homegrown Yakima hops, Bottomcutter IIPA may be light in color but is packed with citrus and pine hop character. This Imperial IPA is brewed to finish dry, perfect for the combination of Citra®, Simcoe®, and Ekuanot™ hops. As the bottomcutter is a tractor that leads the topcutter through the fields during harvest, this beer will lead to a new appreciation for our valley’s hops.

I really enjoyed Topcutter, the only other beer I’ve had from Bale Breaker, when woemad sent it to me in a BIF box last summer. Naturally when I saw this one pop up on Tavour I had to go for it. Let’s crack it open and see if it can stand up to its little brother
Pours a mostly clear orange gold with 3 fingers of soapy off white head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing
The nose is bright but there’s a nice malty character for balance. I’m picking up on aromas of orange marmalade, bready malt, lime zest, papaya, floral hops, white grape, and grass
It’s a bit flatter in taste but still pretty damn good for what it is. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting bready malt, orange marmalade, white grape, lime zest, grassy hops, light caramel, and toasted grain. The swallow brings notes of grapefruit zest, orange juice, crackery malt, grassy hops, lime zest, papaya, and dank weed
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes mostly dry with a firm bitterness
I dig this one. I’d say it’s about tied with Topcutter

12oz can (canned 7/9/2022) into a tulip. Pours a nice clear honey amber with a frothy white head, plenty of sticky lace.
Aroma is big tropical citrus and pine—mango, orange, grapefruit. In a word, dank.
Taste is likewise sticky and slick. Plenty of malt backbone to counter the big hop presence. Tons of prickly alpha acids on the palate. Reminiscent of old-school West Coast IPAs like Stone that I haven’t had in a long time, and am now realizing I have missed.
Mouthfeel is sticky, medium heavy, resinous. Bready malt and booze.
Overall a classic imperial IPA, nicely balanced.

12oz can
PKG ONJAN1121
L: a thick foamy ivory head caps a slightly hazed tangerine colored DIPA
S: floral citrus, bready caramel malt, pine, mango
T: excellently balanced flavors: caramel malt, bread crust, grain, pine, floral grapefruit, orange & grapefruit zest
F: full body, ample carbonation, sweet yet pungently bitter, pine lingers on the finish
O: Ugh, I should have bought more than one can of this to bring home with me - it’s so good!

12oz canned 2/24; pours pure golden with a very light chill haze and a small white head. Bright tropical notes on the nose and palate; pineapple and overripe tropical fruit, with some pine, dankness, mango, honey, and bready malt, with a resiny bitter finish and medium dryness. Really not overly sweet even with all those fruity hop notes and the malt profile; this leans West Coast-y, dank, piney, resiny, malty, and bitter.

Color is a heavy gold. Pineapple, mango, mild hop spice on nose.
Taste is funky hops, pine, pineapple, light malt in the background. Very hop forward, naturally, but there’s an unexpected funk that makes it stand out from other hop bombs. The ABV is well masked, and the carbonation is fantastic in that it leaves just enough of a tingle on the finish.
I’m not exactly a hop head, but this beer is original enough to be enjoyable.

Look: Clear burnt orange on the pour with a dense white head that pillows up to one-finger and leaving great lacing behind as it recedes
Aroma: Cara cara orange, sugar-dusted strawberries, passionfruit, blueberries, a little pine, some Cannabis, and sweet bready malt
Taste: Candied orange, fir needles, blueberries, and tropical fruit jump out first, soon joined by dank and strawberry notes. As these all start to lose power, a huge hit of pine sap comes to the forefront. Delicious bready malt is present but stays in the background and finishes with a strong hop bite
Mouthfeel: Full, slightly chewy but not overdone, a little slick, medium-high carbonation, and a big and welcome hop bite with good dryness on the finish
Overall: This is delicious. I love how these folks’ brew their hoppy stuff and this is a well-made and tasty WCDIPA. Good fusion of citrus/pine/tropical fruit/berries/weed, a good feel, great bite, dry, not sweet, and right in the ‘money-zone’ for me as far as ABV (8.2%). In my experience, 8.5-9.0% can still be good but it’s hit or miss and anything over 9% for me, and it’s usually too sweet and/or boozy. Tasty and definitely recommended

12oz canned 3-6-20. Opened 4-26-20.
1 finger of a white head with a short span and settles quickly as a cap. Clear and deep, dark golden DIPA. No lacing.
Tropical nose, sweet malt - honeyed, ripe oranges. Some fruit esters and yeasty character.
Big sweet malt (too much for my tastes), again ripe citrus and honey/bready flavors. Apricot, stone fruit, marmalade. Pine.
Full body, medium carbonation, creamy mouthfeel. Big whack of hop bitterness in a long bitter finish. A little boozy heat. Out of balance overall for my palate. 100 IBU's.
Okay to good.
Second can 5-8-20.
Floaties.
Nose is more distinctive and has a definite dank weedy character...raising my rating on aroma.
