Pours from the can a brownish black with a substantial brown head. The aroma is of chocolate, coffee and spice. The taste is pretty close to the nose, but there's quite a hoppy bitterness for a stout. A bit of booze too. Medium mouth that's slightly oily. Not bad, and the hop profile is distinctively Roughtail.

Received as an extra in a trade and poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Poured a nice deep dark brown nearly black with a good thick almost three finger dark mocha head that faded to leave spotty side lacing and a dense one finger blanket.

S - Aromas of dark, roasted malts, light chocolate, light bready notes, faint caramel, light coffee bitterness. I get some hops, but, they're a bit older.

T - Taste is more of the nose, nice roasted black malt, coffee, darker chocolate, bitter roast and bitter chocolate, rather bitter spicy hop note too. Decent enough stout aspects here with light nougat notes and caramel, the chocolate here is rather prevalent and carries throughout the profile.

M - Mouthfeel isn't bad, slightly lighter/thin but does hide the alcohol well.

O - Overall, not a bad stout, but the hops might be a bit too aggressive here. Great chocolate notes though.

Yay more tall-boy cans, thanks to rudzud for leaving this one for me, my first from this brewery.

Pours a darker colored fizzy head that hits 1/2 finger and keeps trying to fade quickly but seems to be reinforced, eventually leaves lots of messy lacing, pitch black beer no real light getting through.

Nose is pretty strong and aromatic, nice dark chocolate and cocoa powder, little biscuit and malted milk mall notes, a touch of roast and black malt, with a bit of a fluffy nougat note and some nice caramel, some creamy notes with a hint of milk chocolate and coffee milk. Faint earthy spicy hops in the background.

Taste brings more of the same but this time some bitter roast comes out front, roasted black malt, and some dark roasted coffee beans, etc, then into the big spicy earthy hops, big bitterness with a touch of an orange zest. Quite strong and bold out front. In there is mixed with some creamy oats, a bit of a milk chocolate like flavor, with some bitter roasted coffee, etc. A bit of a very dark bitter chocolate as well, and a mild fluffy nougat note and nice caramel. The chocolate keeps going as it goes. Finish is quite bitter, with more spicy earthy hops, a touch of pine and citrus too that seem to clash a bit wiht the big dark roasty malts, etc. nice layered chocolate, caramel, and roasted malts and coffee lingering.

Mouth is med to fuller bod, bit creamy chewy and fluffy, lighter but decent carb.

Overall OK pretty nice, lots of dark malts, roasty, chocolate, decent creamy oats, roasted coffee, etc etc. HOps are nice at first, but turn a little citrus and piney which clash a bit. Otherwise a pretty nice beer.

Poured from a pounder can. Dark, oily brown with an off white head and lacing. Aroma of charred malts, dark fruits, vanilla, coffee and alcohol. In the taste, big chocolate malts, then more residual coffee, vanilla and hop flavor. Well balanced, the hop flavors are fairly brash to stand up to the malts, and do so in an earthy, bitter fashion. Full bodied brew with good carbonation and a hop bite. Overall, this stout is a great canned option. Recommended
