Really good beer here. Double oatmeal Russian imperial stout! The oatmeal portion dominates the beer as I don't pick up any of the dark fruiti typically get in Russians! But, not complaining at all. Really opens up as it ages. Nice effort from Rough Tail

A: 1 finger tan head. Decent retention. Near black body.

S: Some coffee & oat, a touch of roasted malt, and plenty of earthy hops.

T: Roasted malt & bitter, earthy/resiny hops lead. A nice sweetness from the oats & some chocolate bring balance. A touch of molasses, coffee, and alcohol round it out nicely.

M: Medium body with fine carbonation. Somewhat smooth with a warming, long lasting finish.

O: The alcohol is well hidden. Nice balance. Plenty of flavor. Another winner from RoughTail.

750 ml bottle served in a Prairie Teku glass

A - Black body with a fine bubbled espresso head. Dense collar with a wispy cap.

S - Big coffee aroma, roasted malts, smells a bit salty, chocolate and flaked malt, molasses, licorice,

T - Follows the nose with strong coffee/espresso but more chocolate, sticky pine hop resin adds bitterness, thick oat malt, burnt caramel, nice and roasty, slightly acidic, raspberries soaked in Kahlua, licorice and molasses provide plenty of sweetness, it has a strong yeast presence, finishes with pine bitterness and espresso

M - Full bodied, heavy weight, silky, sticky and viscous, bitter finish.

Roughtail comes strong with this RIS. Big bold flavors that grab your attention. Heavily hopped to where the sweetness plays second fiddle to the roast and bitterness. The oats are used well creating a rich body. Strong coffee as well which is always welcomed. Well done Roughtail.

Pours an effervescent ebony with 2 fingers of mocha colored head. Nice viscious body, stays effervescent throughout, lovely lacing & head retention at first, falls off quite bit as time goes by

S: Dark fruit, carob, & a little chocolate once warmer

T: Dark fruit, a touch of roastyness, carob & molasses, plus some boozey warmth up front. Roastyness & charred grain, along with dryness & raisin, plus plum as this warms, plus dark chocolate. Finishes with dry woody hops, charred & roasty grain, a whisper of booze & Baker's Chocolate

MF: Luscious & smooth. Carbonation picks up & body drops off a bit as this warms. Very warming

The oatmeal is fairly present in this one. A nice try at the stout, doesn't hit all the notes, but pretty close. I'm sure this will age wonderfully

I had this before it released at a Roughtail brewery tour, Tony Tielli gave a very informative walk through of their brewery and I learned alot. This brew is great. That being said, my head is rather congested so I am unable to right a decent review. I will come back to this, it deserves my A game.

Roughtail has come through with their 'Agressive' campaign for beers yet again with this Russian Imperial Stout.

Appearance: Dark brown with a hint of burgundy on the rim. Heavy tan head that diminishes and leaves a great lacing.

Aroma: Like their other beers it features an aggressive hop profile that you find in the nose and lingers long in the finish.

Taste: Chewy with toasty flavors, hints of chocolate and lots of booze. ABV doesn't hide and is wonderful for these cold nights in Tulsa.

Looking forward to holding on to a bottle or two for cellaring.

Served in a tulip glass.
