Mosaic is the first born child of Simcoe. Some have described it as Citra on steroids, but it’s much more than that; rich in mango, lemon, citrus, earthy pine, tropical fruit, herbal and stone fruit notes. With Mosaic hops and a compelling trio of Amarillo, Simcoe, and Chinook – this Mosaic double IPA is to be a sure winner in any double IPA enthusiast’s book.

111620, which I assume is the “best by” date. Tall cans with an attractive and simple design. I don’t like the background story of this brewery but I couldn’t pass up a Mosaic DIPA at 9% for $2.99. It’s a heavy hitter, no doubt. A hop bomb with massive sticky resin throughout. Drinkable yet boozy. Burns the nostrils but goes down smoothly. A good beer but probably overrated/scored too high.

This review relates to several amazing Saint Archer Mosaic encounters from July through September 2019 in Southern California. I bought my first cans of Saint Archer around July 8th at a great little beer wine minimart behind The Residence Inn LAX on Century Blvd. based on Beer Advocate ratings.
If you love Mosaic centric IPA/DIPA beers, this is ONE OF THE TOP 5 on the West Coast. Hopefully they’ll be more mosaic hops available in June 2020 so I can stock up on Saint Archer Mosaic without having a mandatory 2 week quarantine to enter the US.

Can: Poured a slightly hazy yellow color ale with a large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of citrusy undertones with light tropical notes is enticing. Taste is also dominated by citrusy floral undertones with some light tropical notes with a pretty dry finish. Body is about average with good carbonation. Solid IIPA with nice use of Mosaic hops with a dryer finish than expected.

19oz can purchased at Safeway in Bothell, Washington.
10/21/19 dating. Poured in to a pint glass.
Look- Brilliant, clear golden amber color. Almost no head, light pock marks on the surface. No retention or lacing to speak of.
Smell- Pretty danky, tropical fruit (passion fruit, mango, pineapple), light peach/nectarine, citrus (tangerine and lemon/lime), light berries, grassy pine, floral and herbal spice. Some nice honey/bready malt in there too.
Taste- Follows the nose, a pleasant moderate bitterness in the finish. Nice malty backbone but the hops dominate.
Feel- Medium bodied. A light carbonation pop on the tongue. Clean, crisp and semi-dry.
O- This was my first time seeing this one and thought I'd give it a shot. Easy drinking for a 9% brew but rather mundane. Surly Axeman style over rated IPA.

I am a big fan of Saint Archer's ownership, corporate or otherwise increasing the distribution footprint here without sacrificing any quality/freshness while maintaining an affordable price point. But wait, there's more!
Pours a golden color amassing a 3/5" white head. The aroma is definitely mosaic, gives off that dank citrus and tropical fruit notes. There's a little bit of amarillo supplementing the aroma too in the herbal notes.
Taste, this is what I'm talking about people, let's combine more of those familiar C hops (Chinook) giving some pine to compliment the fruit. Good firm Chinook and Simcoe bitterness, you get a full panoply of hop flavors, dry and crisp pale toasted malt body. Really amazing how light the body is, but it carries the alcohol so well, this is a dangerous beer at 9% because you really can drink it like its 5% without noticing until the buzz arrives. Beer pretty much does everything very well to great. Wouldn't hesitate to pick up another 6 pack of this next time it comes out.

Pretty strong for the IBU, I was expecting it to be a little less hoppy compared to other 85 IPA's. The taste is good, nothing wrong with this one.
