Completely unexpected! Never heard of it. It would've taken a LOT, to knock--Old Rasputin, Founders Breakfast Stout or Yuengling Hershey Porter off my top Favs list--but Oubliette FREED me from a 'prison' I did not realize I was in !! It rocketed to my new #1, leaving the others behind down on Earth. Had a pint of it at Jungle Jim's in Cincinnati, and after 10 minutes in, I suspected I'd might fall on my face if I got up. (Remember, this is 12% brew, and 16 oz. is a 'party', even halfway through) It tasted SO good, that I seriously, very much desired a second pint. So I called my wife to come get me in a half hour, cuz I knew I wouldn't have been able to walk out of the store on my own.
Then, waiting patiently in line for my turn, to my utter shock, I was given the cut off/knife across the neck gesture by the barmaid. I protested to no avail. I immediately went into a clinical depression. I'm 67 years old--I have NEVER been 'cut off'.
So I had no other choice than to immediately go up and buy every sixpack they had on display.
It is THAT good!!

The most excellent stout I have ever consumed, and I enjoy a stout. The aroma is grand, the taste is is to die for! If this beer was a woman, I would make love to her! Excellent choice for any occasion. And 12% ABV, good bang for the buck!

I got a 6pck of this beer from the brewery. It poured an opaque dark with tan ring head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent had roast and dark chocolate malt notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with mocha roast presence. The mouthfeel was fuller in body and had good carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

12 oz can, poured into a Spiegelau stout glass at ~45 degrees F.
L: Pours your standard stout impenetrable black, and forms a few fingers of dense tan foam with good retention.
S: Chocolate, plums, figs, and dark bread. Hints of dark topsoil and light coffee.
T: What I just typed to describe the nose, more or less verbatim, and in that order. Chocolate and dark bread up front, with stone fruits and figs entering soon after, and dark topsoil with faint coffee entering late. The finish lingers as slightly sour plum and cocoa-sprinkled coffee.
F: Full, thick, and syruplike.
O: Seventh Son generally kills it when it comes to stouts, and this is no exception. Delightful.

Pours almost black with a thick tan head.
Aroma is everything I want from an imperial stout. Dark chocolate, coffee, dark bread, all types of malty goodness.
Tastes just like it smells. Very well made stout as I would expect from this brewery.

Typical big stout. Chocolate, coffee. Black as a forgotten dungeon, according to the can. How do you go about forgetting a dungeon? Nothing about the taste or smell stood out, but that's just fine. Still a very good beer.

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass not sure when canned. Pours midnight black with a finger plus sticky brown head that leaves a thin wall of lace with excellent retention. 4.5
Aroma is vanilla, molasses, cocoa nibs, toffee, and some roasty coffee really pleasant. 4.25
Taste follows cocoa, vanilla, toffee, molasses, and some coffee in the bold finish. 4.25
Mouthfeel is big, soft gentle carbonation, maybe a little dry, and at 12% a little alcohol creeps in, but pretty easy going down. 4.25
Overall I would gladly get more of this one, well done RIS. Sip after sip you want to over indulge. Thanks @jzeilinger for this impressive stout. 4.25

A - Pitch black pour with an incredibly dense caramel colored creamy lacing ring.
S - Chocolate roast, coffee roast, and light char.
T - Chocolate and char from start to finish. Cacao, Espresso, char, alcohol, and chocolate roast. Leaves a really nice lingering roasted cacao and chocolate on the palate. There's a bit of an oily dark fruit underlying character with this beer.
M - Thick, viscous, lip smacking sticky, and slightly frothy, with a slight bit of warming in the back of the throat on the way down.
O - This is a really nice Imperial Stout with nice roasty personality. Recommended.

Canned on 12/20/19. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours black with a big creamy and fluffy khaki head that sticks around leaving great thick retention and sticky frothy lacing. The aromas have a anise/black licorice along with some dark chocolate. Malts are there. The flavors follow the nose. More dark chocolate along with some dark fruits. Very mild hints of coffee. Some hops. The flavors are bittersweet, but surprisingly a little more on the sweeter side. The flavors also a sticky and syrupy vibe going. Strong malt backbone. Finishes with a subtle warmth, but it's not hot or boozy. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's fluffy, slightly creamy and velvety.
This is a solid imperial stout. Although I might not be personally crazy about the flavors, it still has alot of great qualities that can be found in the style. It's sticky, slightly sweet and drinks big without being overwhelming. The craftsmanship is on point. It's fun to drink. Not bad at all. It's probably better than my "numerical score" might indicate.

From the 750 ml bottle number 117 of 500 in a snifter via Bluejacket74----Cheers Dude!
This mighty little imperial pours a murky blackish brown with a fantastic head of light
brown foam that settles to a thick ring, thin creamy layer, and displays some excellent
sudsy lacing. Nose of subtleties with dark bakers cocoa, moderate char, dark espresso,
and subtle dark fruit with a light herbal note. Flavors hit the mark with char laden
espresso beans and dark bakers cocoa awash in dark fruit notes of blackberry and
raspberry in a moderately herbal hopped strong boozed stout that is worthy of the
Seventh Son moniker. Earthy elements show with warmth as does some black
licorice and subtle chalk notes. Excellent mouth feel; full body, medium light carbonation
with a bitter malt forward finish that is warming and rich in boozy goodness!
Balanced yet assertive.
Overall, an excellent brew from a great brewery----visit this place, they are exceptional
with one of the best coffee mild ales I have ever had to date with a whopping 3 percent
ABV. This one is the beefy big brother that should be sipped and enjoyed.
Excellence. Period!
