A lovely surprise. I was gifted this beer by a friend and it came with an assortment of other Ohio beers- mostly medium hoppy ales including Citra Dog. This one, I poured this Seventh Son from a tall boy can into a Spiegleau tulip glass and was immediately taken with the ruby red color. Expecting a hoppy bite, instead the nose and tastebuds were presented with a malty mixture of caramel and citrus. I REALLY enjoyed this beer. I drank half of it from the tulip glass after it warmed a bit and half from the can while it was still ice cold. The beer took on a wonderful sweetness as it warmed. I will go back again and again to this beer.

It was my first experience with Seventh Son, but it will not be my last!

A very drinkable strong ale!

Very tasty beer. Reminds me of an imperial red/amber all while holding onto the American strong ale characteristics. Just as hoppy as your Hairy Eyeballs and Arrogant Bastards but more juicy, more tropical and easier drinking than the above. Terrific beer !

Poured from the can into a pint glass. Appears a dark ruby red with a thin tan head. The nose is full of sweet maltiness focused around caramel balanced with touches of pine and citrus. The taste is slightly sweet. Notes of caramel, fruitiness and hints of pint again. Overall, this is a good, very drinkable strong ale, but it doesn't blow me away in any aspects. From reading other reviews, maybe fresher is better. That being said, there's no dating on the can; it just reads, "Happy Birthday Rahsaan" on the bottom.

Enjoyed from the tall boy can in a snifter glass. This strong ale pours a brilliant ruby red with a modest off white head of dissipating foam that fades to a nice ring, a thin layer, and excellent lacing. Nose of heavy citrus, mango, pineapple, grapefruit, sweet candy sugars, and moderately strong alcohol. Flavors follow the nose with lightly syrupy sweet Belgian candy sugars bathed in a cascade of pineapple, mango, papaya, and orange peel on the front and sides followed by a grain note on the rear with sticky and resin laden hops to the rear. Warming alcohol on the finish with a heavy grain bill on the aftertaste mixed with a heaping helping of hops and citrus. Coating finish and carbonated mouth feel keeps this one lively and accessible. Hoppier than I envisioned, yet incredibly solid for the style.

Cheers

16 ounce can. Served in a DFH snifter, the beer pours a mostly clear garnet red color with about an inch light tan head that stuck around for a while. There's also a good amount of lacing. The brew smells mostly like citrusy (grapefruit, mango) and pine hops, along with some caramel malt. I think the taste is very similar to the aroma, but there's also some graininess and citrus peel noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's slick and coating with a good amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good brew, although I'd call it an Imperial Red Ale instead of a strong ale. But no matter what style of beer you call this, it's a good one. I liked it! $2.75 a single can.

1 PINT can
Served in a snifter

A - It is a deep red color and topped with three inches of tan head leaving very little lacing.

S - Citrus and pine are at the forefront of this beer. There is also the distinct smell of a red ale. I got a ton of mango when I bought this beer three weeks ago. The mango is gone now.

T - It tastes like a red IPA. It is citrusy up front but has a red ale base that balances it. Once again the mango that I tasted merely three weeks ago is gone.

M - Medium leaning towards full.

O - I absolutely loved this beer three weeks ago. It was a mango explosion. Now it is a good hoppy red ale. I will definitely make the hour trip south to check out Seventh Son and have some fresh American Strong Ale.
