Generally: So, this Newburyport (MA) brewery came out of nowhere, and has right-near knocked my socks off. I drank their Pale Ale a few weeks ago (cans) and thought it was pretty dang delicious, and then we got this guy in the store and I had to take it home to see if it lived up to its proclamations (An Assertive and Hoppy West-Coast Style IPA), and it's sibling's successes. I'd like to add that their very unassuming packaging might encourage you to overlook their beer. Don't.

The Pour: Ruddy amber in color with a nice satiny head.

Face in the glass: Down right interesting. I get insistent, and beguiling chocolate malt notes, coupled with resinous and piney hops; there's a pleasing sour note in the background.

Temperature: It's perfect at 51 degrees--refreshing and expressive.

With Regard to Taste: Who knew Newburyport, MA would become home to some of the sickest IPAs I have had in the last few years. This is a beer made with conviction, insight, and love. An absolutely gorgeous balance of malt and hops--which is relatively rare in assertive IPAs that still taste like assertive IPAs--that delivers a food-loving dryness and a mind-altering 7.2%. This is an adult beer ISO of hop lovers and nuance seekers. Dang!

Epitoma: Given the price point, $9.99/6 pack at my shop, and the quality of this beer, I am going to have a hard time drinking anything else in the immediate future.

Note: Would pair very well with cocoa, sweet, and fatty.

Serving type: can

Poured from a can into a pint glass.

Appearance: Darker Amber color and hazy with a thick beige head.

Smell: Light hops and citrus.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth medium bodied. Taste of bitter hops and pine notes with a hint of citrus.

Overall: It looked a lot stronger than it was, but still a good IPA.

Wow. What an amazing beer. Took us by surprise. Had it on tap at a small restaurant in Boston. Great hops profile. Vey smooth. Low bitterness. Well balanced.

Good beer.. Might be higher rated.. I need to have it more times to have a definitive judgement on it.. But I like what I'm tasting ..
