Pours a large fizzy darker colored over carbonated like head that fades quickly at first then slows, very little lacing, very dark brown almost black color little mahogany light sneaking through.

Nose brings a yeasty overcarbonated under attenuated mess, luckily that doesn't last too long a sticky sweet malt, roasty, some old stale coffee, stale malt too, mild cocoa, caramel, burnt acrid fake coffee flavoring like aroma.

Taste brings more yeasty under attenuated super over overcarbonated way too bottle conditioned mess. Then fake coffee flavoring, burnt acrid acidic coffee like the coffee burnt to the bottom of the pot, ick. Mild caramel and sticky attempt at sweetness that would have been there but dried out in the bottle. Little cocoa, earthy flavors from the coffee beans, like whole coffee beans with the oil on them. Finish super dry but sticky, lingering acrid roast and more bad burnt coffee flavor.

Mouth is med bod, super overcarbonated.

Overall pretty poor.

Poured into an English pint glass, the appearance was a nice looking black pour with some red hues about the glass. Finger’s worth of eggshell white foaminess. Some light lace sliding into the beer. The aroma consists of fairly thick milk chocolate sweetness with some sweet espresso beans, then just a touch of vanilla. Finishes with a crisp roastiness. The flavor leaned towards the sweet side blending the milk chocolate to the espresso, nicely done. Wet sweet sort of chocolatey aftertaste running into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fabulous sessionability about it. Mild carbonation. ABV felt fine. Overall, nicely done sweet porter well worthy of having again.

From the 650 ml. bottle. Sampled on May 28, 2015.

Dark brown pour with a full but short-lived tan or mocha head. Fizzy.

The aroma brings out a malt sweetness more than an intensive coffee bitterness. But I get some spent coffee grinds.

The body is smooth, creamy and probably in the medium range

The taste has a bit of coffee grinds but there is a sort of cardboard or musky cellar presence in the flavor not noticed on the nose. Hardly any bitterness.

Pours a brown color with a fizzy head, fades quickly and leaves no lacing or a hint of a cap or bubbles on top at all.

Smell has a roasted malt aroma with a very mild coffee presence.

Taste starts out with a roasted malt flavor and even a bit of tart dark fruit hits the sides that's unexpected, coffee is even more mild in the taste department and really needs to be notched up if it's to be called a coffee porter, cocoa has a decent presence, carbonation is very high at first but after the bottle has been opened a short while the carbonation drops off a cliff (sort of like a cola), body is on the thinner side.

Looking at the ratings, I believe this is a reincarnation. 2014 rating were terrible. I find this to be an excellent, roasted porter. The espresso bean stands out with a nice mocha flavor. From a 16ox can..Very tasty!

A- 22oz bottle poured into a tulip glass with a black body. A one finger light mocha tan head rises up with a foamy, frothy texture. Decent head retention and a medium thick ring leaves sheets of lace. Ample lace webs follow each sip.

S- Medium roast coffee grounds and what seems like a Belgian/European yeast spice off the top. Roast cereal grains, cocoa, caramel and toast as well.

T- Once again, coffee is the key player but it brings a fairly acidic, sharpness with it. It tastes a bit like the dregs of a French press (not that bad but reminiscent) like overbrewed coffee. Roast cracked grains and a definite fruity, spicy yeast base.

MF- Creamy, silky textured body that is not chewy but is still very soft and forgiving to the palate. High end carbonation but the aforementioned texture helps it work out. Finishes with a sharp acidic, bitter roast coffee feel lingering.

It took me a bit to warm up to this but in the end it is a solid, unique coffee brew. The coffee is a bit sharp, for lack of a better term, but it works with the yeast used in conjunction with it.

Pours a dark brown, settles in the glass nearly black, lets a little light through. Left a fizzy tan head that receded quickly, left no lacing on the glass.

Smell is odd. Off. I don't really know how to place it, just smells odd. Doesn't invoke coffee or malts or anything,

Tastes off as well. I can pick up the coffee, but it tastes like coffee if it also had construction paper notes in the flavor. The smell is definitely in the flavor, it's not exactly endearing, nor is it appalling. It's just sort of there being out of place.

Rather thin for a porter, medium light body, medium low carbonation, relatively smooth, but I wouldn't go out of my way to try this again.

L: deep dark brown almost black but on the edges can almost see through the brown, little head and light to no lacing
S:deep roasted malt nose with coffee to back it up
T: follows the nose burnt roast malt a litte on the bitter side but in a good way, like a hot cup of strong coffee
M: clean and crisp and for me beer falls a touch short compared to others in the style
O: a very solid beer and really for a selfie find even better I can grab a 4 pack in cans whenever I want. Agree with other sub 3.5 rating is not deserved.

Pored from a 16 oz. can into a Sam Adams glass. Poured black with a thick tan head which lasted. Strong smell of coffee. Solid coffee flavor with a great aftertaste. Outstanding beer.

I remember Mocha Joes's from downtown, Brattleboro, VT where I lived for 6 years as part of a private school. Pours a dark brown hue with a one finger head into my glass. Pungent aromas of roasted coffee and cream upfront. Rich and creamy, roasted coffee drop-out. Immediately, I am reminded of why I enjoyed Mocha Joe's as much as I did. It was my first introduction to "real" coffee, unlike the Folgers and Maxwell House of my youth. Either way, amazing porter with a good dose of coffee. Cheers.
