"This sweet and full bodied stout, complex in every area of taste and aroma, may just be exactly what you're looking for as the Summer fades away into Fall, and Winter is sneaking... Wait... What are we saying here? There are no seasons in the Crooked Letter State! ENJOY ANY TIME!!" Brewed in the style of an American Stout featuring Pumpkin. Available in 22 oz. bottles and on seasonal draft.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle to a snifter glass.

(Appearance) Pours a mocha brown head of a frothy foam consistency over a very dark brown body. Retention is below average and lacing is faint. 3.25

(Smell) Assertively spiced nose of nutmeg, allspice, clove and roasted pumpkin meat with undertones of moderately roasted barley malt, caramel syrup, a touch of chocolate grain and lactose. Potency is moderate/high. 4

(Taste) The flavor largely follows the nose, with a punch of pumpkin pie spices, allspice and clove predominantly, following with roasted grains, caramel and pale malts. Also detectable is a bit of faint earthy coffee bean flavor, fairly unexpected given the expected complexity of the style. The flavor is a bit lighter in body than expected from the aroma, with less rich pumpkin meat flavor, less chocolate and lactose sugars, making for a milder and drier body. Finishes with a lingering bite of pumpkin spices well after the last sip. 3.75

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, slightly creamy, chewy, medium dry. Carbonation is moderate, generating a medium frothiness and a modestly crisp finish. Body is medium for the style, medium/heavy overall. Balance leans slightly more earthy bitter, spiced and drying over sweet. Alcohol presence is mild and there are no off characters to note. 3.75

(Overall) I find that pumpkin may be among the most challenging fruit characters to extract into any beer, no less an American Stout, where it needs to come through boldly to rival the roasted grains and any added adjuncts. It doesn't come through very well in this beer, but the presence of fall spices certainly alludes that this beer is ideally made for the pumpkin. Not the most phenomenal pumpkin beer, or even pumpkin stout, as these styles are becoming much more common with some good quality examples. It's not a bad local option, however and a decent fall seasonal. It gets a solid score for effort- Worth seeking out at an appropriate price. 3.75

Black, not super thick. Tan thin head. Smells of pumpkin, chocolate, cinnamon, pumpkin spice. Some light roast and coffee notes. Taste is very similar. Almost like a chocolate covered pumpkin pie! This beer rocks!

Smells incredible, so good that it makes the taste somewhat disappointing. Although it still has a nice taste. As others have said, I can't taste the pumpkin at all but it definitely has a "fall" feel to it. Smells similar to a pumpkin pie and tastes similar to a coffee stout.

A- Pours a pitch, no head, no lacing

S- Sweet, wood, nutty, and very very faint spice. Almost no pumpkin. Great smell but no pumpkin.

T- A cross between Ameretto and nutty. I guess there is some spice, but it's definitely a unique flavor. Sweet and earthy. It's not pumpkin, but it's definitely fallish.

M- Medium carbonation. Coats the mouth thoroughly but briefly.

D- I want another. It was very intriguing.

First had on draft into tumbler. Missed this pumpkin stout during its 2014 debut release. Fortunately for (you and) me, Crooked Letter brought it back for 2015.

Poured into a pint glass Halloween night.

A: Black with minimal head and lacing.

S: Pumpkin pie, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.

T: Smooth, sweet. Pumpkin pie and vanilla lead the dance with subtle spice offerings of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Dark chocolate melds to give it a heftier balance, sometimes putting it off-balance.

M: Here's the weak link. Light to medium mouthfeel with low carbonation. Creamier, heavier carbonation would've made this a more robust drink.

O: A shade under Warlock. A decent sipper, great for sharing with friends. Not something I'd sip a lot of. Would go great with pumpkin pie.
