Pours a hazy yellow with green highlights and a white bubbly head

Smells of whole grain, musty yeast, orange, and coriander

Taste is sour yeast, orange, and coriander giving way to whole wheat bread with a toasty malt flavor, an excellent beer.

"Our crooked take on an authentic German style, this American hefeweizen is bold yet mild, cloudy, and finishes with a hint of banana and clove, just as it should be! Make sure to swirl your glass!!" Brewed in the style of a Hefeweizen, available year-round on draft and in 12 oz. bottled 6 packs.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a tulip glass.

(Appearance) Pours a short-lived crisp, foamy head of a pastel white color over a densely cloudy amber body with trace sediment. Retention is poor and there is no visible lacing. 2.25

(Smell) Malted wheat and biscuit malt body, light notes of lemon, clove and trace banana. Potency is mild. 3.5

(Taste) Bolder flavors of wheat malt, banana and clove, fairly light on the hefeweizen yeast character, more of an American Pale Wheat Ale. 3.5

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, lightly chewy, smooth and medium dry. Carbonation is moderate, generating a light frothiness and a medium crisp finish. Body is light/medium for the style, shy of medium overall. Balance is slightly tangy and peppery over sweet. Alcohol presence is light and there are no off characters. 3.5

(Overall) A fairly pedestrian and forgettable Hefeweizen ale that drinks more like a Pale Wheat Ale, not very impressive hefeweizen yeast character and shallow presentation. Hefeweizens are always a difficult style to master, but this one isn't amongst the better American examples. 3.5

Crooked Heffy has a medium, white head, a clear, bubbly, gold-straw appearance, that clouds into a murky, gray-orange-gold, after the "swish & pour", and minimal lacing left behind. The aroma is of white wheat bread, and the flavor is of white wheat bread. Mouthfeel is medium, and Crooked Heffy finishes dry and drinkable. If you want a 7% wheat beer that tastes remarkably like a high-gravity lager (ex. Hurricane High Gravity), this could be one for you! Also, it is $1.99 a 12-oz. bottle, as opposed to $2.29 for a 40-oz. bottle of Hurricane HG.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a cloudy, dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is pretty much missing, some faint hints of citrus. Taste is of citrus, wheat, tart, easy drinking. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a bit more tangy than I'm used to in this style, but a pretty good beer.

Poured from bottle into pint glass

A: Pours as a golden, orange, and slightly opaque appearance. Slight off-white head that dissipates quickly.

S: light citrus, lemony notes.

T: Very good taste to me. It has a strong citrus backbone with the flavors of bananas sneaking through. Some very good ester flavors.

M: Medium

O: One my favorites from Mississippi and my favorites Heffy so far.

Poured into a pint glass

A: Hazy golden with a half finger off-white head that fades fast. Decent lacing.

S: Citrus, featuring oranges with a lemon backbeat. Fresh, sunny.

T: Full bodied and flavorful. Oranges dominate with lemon following. Slightly bitter finish. Smooth and summery. Sweet.

M: Medium with medium frothy carbonation.

O: A great example of the style. Sessionable. Recommended.
