The colour is deep copper-brown (45 EBC), the liquid is clear. The low off-white head sinks quickly into a thick ring. Some lacing occurs.
The smell is malty with lots of caramel, some hay, toffee and dried flowers. Clean medium strong bitter flavours. Hints of grilled meats and a touch of fried onions.
The taste is malty with some lightly roasted flavours. Quite a lot of salty grilled meats. Fruity notes of dried apricots, apples and figs. It is not overly sweet. Smooth hay-ish hops and mid-strong bitterness in the aftertaste. The finish is dry with lingering notes of caramel malt and hint of plums.
The carbonation is mid-strong, the bubbles small. The liquid is somewhat smooth and a little light.
A smooth and very caramelised brown ale. Will probably go well with the traditional fat-sweet-sour flavours of the Swedish Christmas dishes.
