The colour is deep red-brown (50 EBC), the liquid is clear. The finger thick airy head quickly sinks to a thin beige lid leaving no lacing.
The smell is smooth and malty with equal sweet and bitter notes in the background. Roasted notes of dark rye bread and treacle.
The taste is very malty, but not overly sweet. Roasted notes of dark bread and dried fruits. Light clean bitter notes. Medium body. The aftertaste is smooth with caramelised malts, dried fruits (prunes). The finish is clean with caramel and tamarinds.
The carbonation is mild to medium the small bubbles long-lived. The liquid is semi-smooth.
A modern clean interpretation of the ESB/brown ale styles.
