Look: It pours light gold with a white head. Head retention is good.

Smell: It has aromas with some earthly elements, dough, and low orange.

Taste: It is doughy with a bit of cracker. There are low levels of coriander, orange, and citrus. There are very low flowery elements as well.

Feel: It has a medium light body.

Overall, It is a bit much on the dough and cracker because the other elements get lost.

My local drinking buddy and frequent traveler, Justin C., brought this CAN back from one of his recent trips, knowing that I would happily included it in The CANQuest (TM). Many thanks!

From the CAN: “Johnston County’s First Legal [italicized] Brewery”; “Notes of Citrus and Coriander weave together with our Belgian yeast strain to create a perfect balance of flavors that are subtle and enjoyable all year round. This beer is the only lure you need in your tackle box.”; “Save an Aluminum Tree. Recycle This CAN.”; “Proudly Brewed and CANned by Deep River Brewing Company in Clayton, North Carolina”.
Once more I was faced with a Pint CAN, so once the Crack! had happened, I began an inverted Glug that CANtinued until there was too much foam to deal with and I had to back off. It rose above the lip of the glass and became a massive three-plus fingers of bone-white head whose soft, rounded top looked like the top of a vanilla ice cream cone. Color was a slightly hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 -5). Nose smelled kind of perfume-y, like orange blossom, very sweet. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was initially very sweet with that same perfume-like taste that I had noticed on the nose. The coriander did not really make an appearance until the finish when I noted a slight pepperiness in my throat. I have to say that I was pretty disappointed in this one, especially when they use the word “perfect” to describe a beer’s flavors. It might be okay for a novice, but it simply did not measure up to my expectations.

12 ounce can - $2.25 at Tasty Beverage Co. in Asheville, North Carolina.

Appearance: Pours a lightly hazed, yellow-hued body with a thin, rather brief, white head.

Smell: Mercy. A buttery-smelling caramel scent, and a fairly strong one at that overshadows any meager citrus notes and any perceivable spice elements.

Taste: As expected from the aroma, it's an odd, oddly sweet caramel coupled with butter flavor that gives a curious sensation of kettle corn. Maybe a flash of herb and lemon under there, who knows, really, as it's mainly the rich, sweet, buttery flavor. I was hoping for an under-performing wit at worst, a delightfully passable wit at best, so this was a bit of a surprise.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-low carbonation.

Overall: Heavens, no!

Beer was judged by 12 beer drinking friends and was found to be slightly above average in all measurements. 16 ounce can was perfect size for us but may be to large for others. Citrus notes were underwhelming and beer was only very slightly cloudy. We found it best served at 49 degrees.

Poured from a can into a wheat glass.
Look: Quite frankly I simply could not control the head. This is the second can I poured. The first one I used an aggressive pour, as I'm won't to do, and the head filled the glass with only about 4 oz. of the pour. My second attempt, I tried to pour it down the side of the glass. I still couldn't fit half the 16 oz. can in the glass due to the huge head. With time and a few sips I finally got this into the here glass I was using. the head eventually subsided leaving some nice lacing.
Smell: Light aroma of spice
Taste: The best part of this brew. the malt and the yeast dominate the taste. the additives provide a subtle background note.
Feel: Light to medium
Overall: When the sun makes its appearance and warm days start showing up I do like a nice wit. This meets that on taste but they need to control that head.

Great caramel orange nose. Tastes smooth with a bready, orange flavor with the spice and coriander coming in at the end. A really solid, easy drinking brew.

Growler. Pours a hazy amber color with a smallish off-white head on it. Nose is fairly yeasty, and is definitely characteristic of the style. The citrus elements do come through, though they are subtle. Taste is just a little bit sour, and feels a tad heavy. OK.
