12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip. Drank alongside two other variations: oak staves and rum barrel. My favorites were the whiskey barrel and the "regular." But all were great.

The beer pours a very nice and extremely vigorous brown head that dissipates quickly but still leaves a nice thin film and coating around the inside of the glass. The beer itself is an opaque black.

The beer has a pretty strong maple syrup smell among the the other notes. The other notes include the expected porter notes of chocolate, caramel malt smell, and a slightly roasted malt too. The smell also has a strong salt note that bridges the other two different notes. The beer has some whisky and oak notes that make their appearance once the beer warms up a bit and mix well with the salt.

The taste bares some similarities with the smell. Both have the same notes but at different strengths. In the taste, the whiskey note is much stronger and the salt is a bit weaker but still shows up. The bitter molasses taste shows up and covers the porter notes, which show up more towards the end and in the aftertaste.

The mouthfeel is fairly heavy but feels pretty light. The carbonation if fluffy and makes the drink pretty smooth while giving the beer some texture.

Overall, a very good imperial porter and worth every penny I paid. The salt is what really makes this beer unique and how well it blends with some of the other notes by either complementing it or making a nice contrast.

Rerated on 4/19/18 - Blvck Celebration – Maple Whiskey – Ghost 127

Purchased at Arrow Wine for $7.99/12.7 oz. About 3.5 years old when I drank this one. #312/600. This one opened with a pop and then gushed. Poured into a small stemmed tulip.

Very porter-like qualities/to style. I would not call this beer infected, maybe the maple the maple syrup sugars and three plus years of cellaring contributed to the gushing. In my opinion better than fresh versions I have had. Based on my earlier ratings of 3.75 across the board, the beer is much better after cellaring. 4.5

A – Poured an opaque black with a two-finger mousey tan head. Almost meringue-like Good lacing. 4.5

S – Aromas of maple, and whisky with hints of vanilla. 4.5

T – Faint licorice, lightly roasted even burnt malt, no obvious residual sweetness. 4.5

MF – Medium heavy body with an unexpectedly dry finish. Slightly warming, sticky, creamy smooth finish. Some astringency, especially as it warmed. 4.5

On tap, Ghost 127:
Pours dark brown, almost black. No visible clarity. Lighter tan head collects in a medium rim along the glass, with a pool of head on the surface.
Nose is mostly wood-with a light touch of sweetness and whiskey added that comes on a bit more with warmth. Seems to me to be missing roasted malt notes.
Taste mirrors the nose in the fact that the roasted malt flavors are more in the background than I'd like. The light sweetness is nice, balancing a bit of woody-sourness (really a light tart fleeting bite). The wood also makes an appearance late in the taste. The pour is very nicely smooth, medium body.

It appears I got a glass from the bottom of the keg, as it kicked shortly after I ordered. Not sure if this affected the beer much. Another decent effort, but seems to be lacking in a full compliment of components to get a higher rating.
