A-Cloudy orange, very carbonated, one finger head.

S-Extremely funky. Grapes are very present. Some wheat as well, tad bit of citrus.

T-Woah. Funk everywhere. Citrus and good deal of grapes with slight oak.

M-Lighter, nice carbonation and the finish is extremely dry.

O-Another wonderful De Garde beer. Very thankful I was able to try it.

I shared this bottle with Chuck and Joel to christen our new Glasswhales glasses, courtesy of Hannydawg.

I'm not really sure what, if anything, makes this beer a gruit, but all labels aside, this was one damn good brew.

Cloudy, orange-amber color, with a small white head that retained as a collar, leaving a few dots of lacing on the glass. Funky aroma, lacto notes, citrus and white wine, crisp and leafy. Tartness up front in the taste, lemon-lacto, white grapes, wet grassy funk, lots of oak, and some bready yeast, toasted grains, dry leaves, subtle hints of leather. Pretty interesting. Sort of reminded me of something along the lines of a Tired Hands or Crooked Stave sour saisony type beer. Medium body, crisp and prickly mouthfeel, very nice overall.

I see "gruit" and I think something herbal and uncommonly spicy and earthy, but this really came off more as a wild saison or something along those lines. I almost want to detract points from the "overall" category in that this was not a typical gruit in any way, but instead I'll just say, this was not your typical gruit. My question is: were hops or herbs used in this, and what variety?

Long finish. Good floral gruit-ness up front and in the middle of the mouth. Juniper berries really stick out. Great sourness. Maybe a bit of saltiness on the back end. This is eating the enamel off my teeth.
