Bottle shared by Jim. Thanks man. Beautiful pink / purple body with a light pink head and lots of floaters that appear to be berry segments. Aromas of blackberry, jam, oak. Lovely flavor. Easy to drink. Not picking up the whiskey character, but hey, it's still delicious.

Thanks to Joe for sharing this one!

Color is really nice, a deep purplish blackberry hue. Minimal spotty lace, patchy skim on the surface.

Aroma is acidic, some barrel heat obscures much nuance.
Taste is full of tart blackberry, some woody traces, tart and dry in the finish with a slight lingering berry taste. Blackberry compliments well though the barrel seems to add some heat which is odd for a fairly low abv beer. Overall the fruit is the star of the show here.

750ml bottle, highly anticipated. Poured into a Side Project stemmed glass 10/4/2014.

A- Darker purple-reddish body, two finger purple head that doesn't stick around for long. Thin film, thin collar, some lacing. [3.75]

S- Not quite as much blackberry as Black Raz, but this is quite jammy. Plenty of the De Garde yogurt lactate, musty oak, hints of sharp wheat. Not a lot of funk. [4.25]

F- Blackberry jam, oak, must, yogurt lactate. No real whiskey flavour here, unfortunately, which was a bit disappointing. Still, there's plenty of blackberry character that comes across here, particularly in terms of its tartness. [4.25]

M- Medium bodied, a bit lower in carbonation than expected, but easily crisp and drinkable. Very tart berry finish. [4]

O- Delightful, not mindblowing and not as advertised, but this was still very enjoyable in terms of the fruit character. Again, De Garde's Bu series makes for a nice blank canvas. [4.25]

Final score: 4.2

Pour is dark purple with a good bit of tight pink head. Nose is meaty, hints of boozy whiskey, a note of wood, and faint faint dark berry. Taste has notes of the whiskey barrel up front, subtle and not overpowering, the blackberry is fruity and a bit jammy. Lighter body, assertive carbonation, moderately dry finish.

A Bight pink with light pink fuzzy head. Decent retention that fades to a small ring on the outside of the glass. Very lively body. 4.5

S Sweet blackberry jam with some vinegar, maybe a little barrel. Big time berry jam 4.5

T Nice pucker upfront with more sweet berry from front to back. Tartness kicks up in the middle and finish is dry. Big jammy blackberry tart. 4.4

M Prickly carbonation, but not a fizz bomb. Finish is semi dry and some sweetness lingers 4

O Nice fruiter berliner. Sweet berry plays nicely with the tart base beer. Barrel was there but didnt jump out

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Bright pink. Big white head. Very pretty beer.

Smell - Generic berry aroma. Light De Garde yeast aroma. Some oak.

Taste - Again, it's got a light berry flavor. Berry flavor fades and becomes more intensely sour. The wood and weird yeasty flavors come out more in the back. De Garde always has the intense citrusy and spicy sourness.

Mouthfeel - Light and pretty drinkable. Well carbonated.

Overall - The berry flavor isn't as impressive as other De Gardes. Same intensities as other ones, though.

Thanks to Chris F. for sharing this one at Wowcoolman's tasting.

Pours a murky orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is sour with malt, berry, acidic, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with sour berry and acidic flavors on the finish. There is a high amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with a nice balance of sour and berry aspects, but I am not getting any whiskey qualities from this one.

Serving type: bottle.

750mL bottle, only a few week old from Brewery.

Pours hazy deep ruby red with neon pink foam.

Smells of tart blackberry jam, maybe some charred oak notes.

Taste is quite tart up front with fresh berries and oak on the finish. Quite drying on the palate with a light, but jammy mouthfeel. Flavors do fade quickly and I feel some components are masked by the young fruit tartness. Opens up a nicely as it warms.

Overall a very tasty and tart Berliner. I feel the berry flavors are vibrant and almost too overpowering right now for such a lighter style beer, however, some age on this will do nice things and bring out more complexity. Fresh it is still a very refreshing and light bodied fruited sour. By far the best berliner I've had, however I haven't had too many BA fruited BWs.
