Bottle into De Garde tulip.

Pours out a turbid dark amber with a small white head forming and dissipating quickly. Hazy as can be and the carbonation bubbles rise at a leisurely pace.

Aroma brings forth a fruity maltiness along with some fruity yeast esters. Some oak, faint vanilla, grape, apple, strawberry, and mandarin rind shine through as it starts to warm. Not a saison on appearance or aroma. Certainly just more American Wild category than anything else. Though the acidity is a bit muted on the nose.

Then comes the first taste and it hits, like red wine vinegar hits the jawline, a pronounced sharp lactic punch. Flavors are a bit muted at colder temps bit as it warms you get plenty of sharp citrus fruits such as grapefruit and lime. Some vanilla from the bourbon barrels teases briefly and on the finish you get pronounced oak tannins and a hint of malty sweetness.

Mouthfeel is very astringent and tannic. Light medium body and carbonation is lower end. Super sour beer.

Overall pretty tasty in smaller amounts. Lots of citrus, some grape, oak, sweeter malt, hint of vanilla. Could not finish a whole bomber of this because of the elevated acids. This is where American brewers are doing it wrong in my book. You sacrifice subtle flavors when your lactic and acedic levels are through the roof. Quick turnaround on sour beers is in most cases not the best thing. But all negatives aside, I can see how this beer could have been stellar. It just missed the mark this time though.

Golden Amber color.

The bourbon shows a lot and this one is very sour. Extremely acidic and vinegary. Mouth puckering. Fruity. Tart. Maybe too sour.

Decent, but I wish it was toned down I could taste the barrels more.

Thanks to @1up for sharing this.

Tasting really good right now. Bright acidity, some dark fruit, and really dry. Nose blues the taste. Crack em now if you got em.

Thanks to jmgrub for sharing this one at mrbubbler's tasting.

Pours a murky orange-brown with a foamy bone head that fades to nothing. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is sour with malt, earth, fruit, and slight bourbon aromas. Taste is much the same with sour fruit, bourbon, and wood flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp and dry mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty, but the bourbon barrel aging on this one is a bit subtle to me.

Serving type: bottle.
