Oh man I don't think de Garde makes a bad beer. The color on this beer is absolutely insane and seems impossible without food coloring. As expected the flavor is absolutely mouth watering and the carbonation is perfect.

If this ain't the prettiest beer I've ever seen. Rare perfect appearance score. Aroma was berryesque, noticeably missing the foot smells I get from a lot of blackberry sours.

Taste, real good, layers of wood, wheat and blackberry. No flaws whatsoever, so dialed in. They must have used a shit ton of blackberry to get the base version to this color.

Wow, is she a pretty looker. Amazing purple drank color is mesmerizing. Aroma was tart, didn't reveal a shit ton of blackberry aromas or anything like that.

Taste, good, not as good as some of the other fruited bu, but still delicious. A little bit of wood & wheat in the mouf-feel. Stays light on its feet, never anything acetic or vinegar in these. I'm still amazed how you can have the regular bu weisse, and then add so many blackberries that it changes the color to this degree. Anyways, solid stuff, one of the best fruited berliners out there.

Bottle share at Courtyard & Cellar for Toppling Goliath Mornin' Delight release!!!

22oz Bottle.

First time enjoying a de Garde offering. Burgundy in color. Nose is unbelievable raspberry jam. Taste is fruity raspberry jam, slightly tart and follows the nose. Medium attenuation. Highly recommended!

From 09/10/15 notes. 750ml bottle into stemware glassware.

Pours a beautiful purple-red color with reddish tinted head and high carbonation evident. Lots of blackberry jam, super sour and very tart in the taste. Lacto, dark fruity berries and malts, oak, and some funk. medium body and moderate to high carbonation.

Overall I loved this; seriously one of the best berliners I've ever had. This is only the second de Garde beer I've had so far and I am very impressed with them. Would love to get more of their stuff.

Absolutely gorgeous purple / ruby hue with a dark lavender. Lambic type of aromas with grandiose berries. Terrific flavor. Piquant and delicious. Blackberry, raspberry. Teeming with juicy flavor. Outstanding.

Blown away. New glarus eat your heart out.

The nose was powerful, striking.
Lots of fruit. Lots of sour. Flavor exploding. I am blown away. So much flavor, so much pop. de Garde i am impressed. This needs more hype. Just a fantastic sour, fruit beer.

I was really underwhelmed and had such high hopes. Fortunately I will be trying it again and also next to Imperial Purple Raz which I hear is much better.

Bottle (750 ml). From Jose, thanks! Split-5 ways (6 if we include the drain).

Appearance: Dark reddish-purple with a medium pinkish-purple head and some lacing. The head disappear rather quickly though.

Aroma: Burst of black raspberries, and it’s not leafy but really fruit forward. And it’s not jammy, it’s just like fresh picked raspberry. Acidic. After a while though, the raspberry fades a bit and there’s rubber-ish notes but the aroma is really enticing for the first few minutes.

Taste: That’s were it starts to get bad. It tastes like cheap raspberry vinegar. It wasn’t leafy in the aroma, but here it is a bit. Notes of carboard too. But most of all, this is way too friggin sour.

Palate: And here’s the nightmare. Light body, but it’s not just watery, it’s worst than that... water has more body than this. It’s like sublimated vinegar. Short puckering finish.

Overall: Enticing aroma, but taste of vinegar and atrocious mouthfeel. Poor drinkability, especially for a 4.4 % abv beer. Grossly overrated. It’s the 18th bottle I try from De Garde and either we have really really bad luck or it’s the most overrated brewery out there. We had a few decent/good beers from them but the vast majority had something "off" and they were bad or worst.

Gorgeous color. Would have loved just a TOUCH of sweetness to really makes the berries pop. The dry, sour flavor really instead gave way to more seeds/skins characteristics and not the juice.

Tarty fruity blackberry and cassis nose, lots of citrus,. Light body with lots of tart, cassis taste with lime.
Not that well balanced and way to much lacto imo

Appearance is a cloudy purple with a bubbly purple head.
aroma is oak, wood tannins, unripe raspberry and blackberry.
Flavor is perfectly tart, prominent raspberry flavor, perfectly balanced.
Mouthfeel is perfect carbonation with a lingering tartness.
this is the perfect balance of sour and refreshing.
De garde is amazing.

Poured out as a crazy dark purple color with a lighter purple head on top. The smell of the beer is super funky with a hell of a lot of black raspberry tartness. The taste of the beer is super acidic like most de Garde beers I've had. The fruit does a decent job of softening the blow. The feel is a little on the thicker side but it doesn't bother me. Overall the beer is pretty good, really nice to look at if anything.

750ml bottle, highly anticipated. Poured into a Side Project stemmed glass 10/4/2014.

A- Dark purple, slightly pink-reddish body, two finger purple head. Beautiful. Good retention, solid lacing. [4.25]

S- Blackberries, raspberries, lots of yogurty lactate, a bit of wheaty sharpness. For the most part this is all fruit and yogurt here. Sort of like a parfait, to think about it... [4.25]

F- Straight up blackberry jam, yogurt lactate making for a solid acidity here, grainy wheat sweetness, some musty oak. Not a lot of funk or complexity. This is what I very much expected it to be. [4.5]

M- Solidly medium bodied, a bit custardy, not watery at all. Good carbonation, very yogurty towards the end tempered by some blackberry tartness. [4.25]

O- Still not getting the 4.66-level goodness (as of this writing). This certainly is not NG Very Sour Blackberry good. Still, this is another example of how good the base Bu is in terms of providing a blank canvas for fruits. Apricot and Black Raz are simply excellent. But it does depend on the fruit... [4.5]

Shared with JLindros and Threelions.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a wonderful black raspberry hue with a thin head that fades to leave a purple halo. 4.5

S - Aromas of buttery oak up front, light vinegar, then black raspberry. Not bad, but, I want more raspberry! 4

T - Taste is nice and tart with seedy raspberry notes, the oak barrel gets awfully buttery which is very distracting. Loads of malt vinegar, really acidic, the black raspberry is there but held back by the barrel notes. Unfortunate. 4.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, sharp. 4.25

O - Overall this beer was nice, but the buttery oak kind of missed this one up. Hmmmm 4

Thanks to rudzud.

No real head, dark purple ruby reddish color.

Nose brings lots of vinegar and black raspberries, tannic seed and stem like, buttery oak lots of it, bramble seed and berry galore. Big vinegar and acid. Buttery starts to turn to diacetyl like buttered popcorn. Don't get that diacetyl like thing on the taste, so weird.

Taste big black raspberry, berry fruit and tannic seeded almost vinous quality. Then very light malt, so much fruit, black raspberry seed, big acidic bite, tingly blackberry soda. Mild sticky sugar too, tart slightly sour berry, vinegar and malt vinegar. Tingly. Great berry, little sticky sweet and big vinegar finish.

Mouth is med bod, tart syrupy tingly acidic, nice carb.

Overall pretty nice, nice berry, nice acidity, but weird buttery aroma. Still tasty and enjoyable. If not for that buttery thing it would be so much better.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Very deep purple. Nice pink head. Thick collar.

Smell - Funky with lots of deep berry. Oak. Yogurty. Like rotting fruit, but not as unpleasant as that sounds.

Taste - Tart with that standard De Garde profile. Lots of blackberry. Not quite jammy, though. Woody. Lemony and yogurty lingering flavor.

Mouthfeel - Light. Well carbonated.

Overall - As always,it's good, but nowhere near as spectacular as the ratings would indicate.

Thanks to mrbubbler for sharing this one at his tasting.

Pours an opaque crimson with a foamy reddish-white head that fades to nothing. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is sour with malt, raspberry, wood, and slight mint aromas. Taste is much the same with sour raspberry, wood, and acidic flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with nice raspberry aspects and an interesting mint aroma that I wasn't expecting.

Absolutely stunning nose and color. Big jammy raspberry flavors with a somewhat thick mouth feel. Very drinkable sour with huge berry notes. Possibly the best American sour beer I've tasted. Hard to believe this is classified as a Berliner Weisse style beer. I never would have guessed that. Only had a small pour, but I feel that this is better than VSB. Highly recommended!

750mL Bottle, Happy B-Day to me.

Tremendous beer... jammy and vibrant berry tartness, thick for the style, but still refreshingly light, sour, and dry. Good complexity for such a lighter beer, goes down way to quickly, leaves one wanting another glass.
