Smell was a bit off but I seem to get that from many berliners, especially DeGarde ...so it`s probably just me. Really delicious. Thanks Matt!!

The beer pours a deep purple with a medium pink head that recedes pretty quickly. It has medium carbonation. The beer smells of lacto, raspberry, blackberry, Boysenberry, whipped cream, and light funk. It tastes tart with lacto, raspberry, blackberry, Boysenberry, whipped cream, and light funk. The feel is medium. This an amazing wild ale from De Garde, I cant get enough of this one.

Poured a deep magenta/purple with a quickly dissipating head. Smelled slightly sweet with the fruit. Taste was jammy, sour, and actually funky, which surprised me. Awesome beer! I've become a believer in boysenberries and this is probably my second favorite boysenberry based sour behind another of De Garde's beers: Beaucoup Violet. This was funkier and less sweet with a little tannic bitterness, definitely more complex.

Had this at the source on our Oregon camping trip last month. I think it was only a 2 bottle max, but was very happy that The Purple was 4 bottles because I preferred it more. Not that this is a shitty beer or anything.

Pours a mixture of a flanders like bruin/red/purple character to it color wise (brown/dark red). Small thin 1/4" off white head on the top. The aroma had a burnt berry vibe to it, it wasn't the juiciness a lot of fruit beers tend to kick down, this one was just as much brown malt feels as it was boysenberry feels. Maybe a little more bitter than your average de garde wile ale.

The taste was a decent sour character around 6.5 on the 10pt scale, good gritty texture to the malt base, nice earthy feel to it without it being too malty or weighing the beer down from where the focus is. Good oak contribution as well. Some wine like feels (red) to be sure.

While its a good beer, it was probably my least favorite of the trip. $18 a bottle I believe.
