This was great as usual, but I will say it was probably the most disappointing de Garde beer I have had. It was still great, but didn't live up to the flavors of some of their other fruited bu's. The fruit didn't pop like it does in their others, and I got a weird spice on the finish. It almost tasted like some cinnamon made its way into the beer.

L - absolutely gorgeous, a pink, rose like hue. Small head that quickly dissipates after a moment, with just a little lacing. Poured into a 10oz snifter.

S - After pouring it in the glass it's smell immediately fills the room. A light, sweet fruit, with a hint of tartness on the nose.

T - The sour profile is mature and not overwhelming, with sweet and tart cherry notes coming through after the initial bite. Pie filling, grainy, sweet bread-like notes from the base berliner weiss are also present. With the smell being so powerful and large, I was expecting a little more fruit profile to be present in the taste, but overall the result is a very well balanced beer between the two flavor profiles.

F - Perfect level of carbonation. A light mouthfeel that begs you to drink a whole bottle, and with a 5.5% ABV, I wouldn't feel guilty about it either.

Overall, a great beer. DeGarde shows great restraint and the result is a very complex yet incredibly light and drinkable sour beer.

750ml bottle, poured into a de Garde stemmed flute glass. Enjoyed on 3.14.15, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a light salmony-pink color, hazy and cloudy with a faint, fizzy off white head, no retention or lace to speak of. The aroma is of lighty tart cherry, pie spice, grainy and lactic berliner base, blueberry puree with a little lemon citrus twang. Quite the inviting and refreshing aroma, very fruit forward. The flavors are nice, juicy berry fruit, tart cherries, light pie spicing, pale and damp grain base beer, mustiness from the oak, but this is quite sour, lactic and very sharp. The mouthfeel is lively, very carbonated, coating, abrasive at times though it finishes quite easily but with a tart pucker to it.

Verdict: A very delicious fruited berliner weisse from de Garde, one of my favorites to date in fact. Very nice fruit profile, light and effervescent and delicate but more important sessionable and quite refreshing. Perhaps a bit too sour for my liking, but still extremely enjoyable.

750ml bottle. Served in a snifter 3/4/2015.

A- Darker orange-copper body, one finger lighter offwhite head with minimal retention time. Disappears quite quickly. A bit of lacing, but otherwise this dies down into a fairly placid brew.

S- Nice blueberry flavour that is surprisingly dominant. I expected more tart cherries to show up on the nose, but not so. Wheat and lactobacillus tartness abound, but as far as Bu's go, it's not particularly tart on the nose. Again, the blueberries seem to be more pronounced than the cherries, but the cherries are there.

F- As noted in the nose, this actually tastes less tart than some of the other Bu's. Blueberry puree, a mild cherry tartness, plenty of wheat and pale malt. Tartness is not particularly high, but it does have a nice yogurty lacto presence. Not superbly complex or intensive as some of the others e.g. Cherry Raz, Black Raz, but still very nice.

M- Thin-medium bodied, a bit creamy and yogurty, yet crisp and light enough that it's nearly impossible not to crush this beer. Very drinkable, but there is a bit of what seems to be missing depth on the back end.. slightly watery with what seems to be a missing "punch" to the beer.

O- Pretty good, but certainly not anywhere near the best of the Bu's.

I have had many de Garde beers and I find myself saying the same thing: they are too sour, have no sweetness and the fruit gets covered up by both of the prior. I loved this beer, but if it has even the SLIGHTEST sweetness this beer would come alive.

Lots of cherry on the nose, taste reminds me of a cherry blueberry lemonade...needs more time to allow the blueberry notes to poke through more. That being said, its a fantastic beer regardless.
