Gusher upon opening the bottle. Nice deep dark raspberry/purple color on the pour with a lighter purple head that swells up and dissipates. Smells of raspberries, fruit, sugar, and oak. Drinks like a fruit juice or thin raspberry jam with a lot of nice notes. Fine balance between sweet and sour on the beer which makes you come back for another sip.

Bottle from the recent release.

Gushing but with a quickly subsiding deep purple head, this beer look awesome. The nose captures the essence of black raspberries just magnificently. Fruity, pulpy, leathery, earthy, dusty, this is magnificent. Seeds are present, lending a tannic bite to the nose. The palate opens bright, sour, juicy and lactic, more so than the other de Garde Berliners I've had. Juicy, fruity, with a big black raspberry character, this is fantastic. A touch of green leaves is present as well. Wonderful jamminess, though i feel the fruit is starting to fade already. Light in body, crisply carbonated and with a long-lasting fruity finish, this is fabulous. Very highly recommended.

The beer is a dark, nearly black purple. Bright purple head. Full raspberry aroma. Dark berry flavor, a real deep jammy jam note. I haven’t had a black raspberry but this is what I imagine it tastes like. Nice tart pucker. It's a bit too acidic for my taste, and that aggressive sourness makes the beer seem a bit one note. It tastes a lot like the Purple version. There’s just a bit more depth of berry tartness, but I’m not sure I would have noticed it without drinking the two side by side (and I'm not sure which I prefer).

Bottle from the source.

Poured out like thick dark purple juice, with a huge foamy fuschia head that eventually fizzled down to a small ringlet. Funky aroma, blackberry and fruit compost. Massive blast of berry jam in the taste, with a great balance of sweet and tart. Really just tons of fruit in this, and even with over a year of age on this, the fruit seemingly hasn't faded at all, or if it has, I can't even imagine how much was in it when it was fresh. Tart and acidic for sure, but not enamel-melting, and I could definitely drink a lot of this by myself. Thick body, almost like a carbonated mead. One of the better ones from dG, and I'm sorry that it's gone. VSB killer for sure.

The black raspberry flavor is near perfect, mild oak, nice funk to it as well. Great balance.

Thanks to jmgrub for sharing this one at Wowcoolman's tasting.

Pours a murky super dark crimson red with a foamy reddish-tan head that fades to nothing. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is sour with grain, raspberry, raspberry juice, and acidic aromas. Taste is much the same with sour raspberry, raspberry juice, and wood flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with very sour but tasty raspberry qualities.

Serving type: bottle.

A- Pours in one of the most unique colors I have ever seen for a beer. The body of the beer hits the glass in a very effervescent and extremely deep purple. The color of the beer is almost black it is so purple and th ehead that forms is large and active and a full, deep grape in color. The head doesn't stick around long and doesn't lace much, but the carbonation is constantly active long after the pour.

S- Hello fruity goodness! The raspberries are all over the nose of this beer and dominate the entire scent. Up front, the berries are sweet and very juicy, but they quickly turn tart and sour. The raspberries are obviously the prominent scent, but behind the fruit there is a drying oak smell that adds a different level of tartness to the beer's scent.

T- The beer hits the tongue with a tart bang of base beer sourness and black raspberry juiciness. As the beer's flavor progresses the sourness dries out a bit and the oak becomes more prominent. The oak adds a layer of complexity to the fruit tartness and continues to amplify the sourness. At the end of the drink there is plenty of sour and fruit to go around and they linger on the tongue a good while.

M- Just as the pour would suggest, this beer has a ton of carbonation and stings its way across the palate. It is light in body and very thirst quenching due to both its light weight and tart flavor components. The fruit gives the beer a bit of a jammy and thicker feel, but in the end it is light and has no noticeable alcohol.

Overall, this beer is a fruited sour lover's dream. The fruit is prominent, but it doesn't drown out the tart aspects of the base beer. Between the oak and fruit, this beer has a sour flavor that suits every type of sour beer fan.

750 ml bottle. Purple/red colored body with a bright pink head that faded rather quickly. No lacing or retention, though in the end it did give a temporary purple 'stain' on the glass walls. Aroma is not that great. Rotten berries, funk and some sourness. Flavor is way better. No other way to describe this than sour black raspberry juice. This has so much fruit in it, you seriously think you're biting into one. Amazing how much they packed into this beer. A bit over-carbonated though. Refreshing, juicy and jammy. Rock on.
