Yellow brew with a faint veil of foam that evaporates quickly. Fairly flat in the mouth, though the tongue stabbing acidity makes it hard to tell. The aroma is actually rather inviting-- a fruity Saison smell with the unmistakable vinegar right behind.

This is not tart, it's sour. The main flavor is lemon juice. I have actually had less acidic lemons. Seriously, this would be the star ingredient in Greek avgolemono soup. As some kind of beer, I just don't see the point in this. How do you review this as a Saison? BA needs a category for sours, not just the American Wild Ale. From the 750 ml bottle purchased at Elizabeth Station in Bellingham.

750ml De Garde bottle poured into two Off-Color stemmed glasses.

A — Pours out with a hazy golden yellow hue. There is a bubbly white head initially, but it fades and disappears and leaves no lacing behind whatsoever. Looks extremely hazy in the glass, not really attractive.

S — Smell is dominated by tart lemon and is highly acidic. Overall it is incredibly bright and citrus forward with notes of lemon, lime, white vinegar, loads of acetic.

T — Tough to describe this one, unfortunately it is overpowered and dominated by sour, this is a great showcase of tart acidity, but it undoubtedly overshadows whatever flavors it might have intended to have had. Big sour tones of lemon juice, lime juice, white vinegar, and acetic acid.

M — Effervescent and bright, tingling, pucker inducing.

O — I was able to get though the bottle, but unfortunately this was far and away the worst offering I have had from De Garde, I typically love their stuff, but this one was over the top, unnecessarily sour and quite a mess.

Pretty great saison. Not my favorite de garde but something I could drink all day any day.

Color is a murky yellow with a nice head that quickly clears. Smells of lemon, lacto, and has that de garde funk to it. Taste is quite tart, hints of white wine grapes and a little citrus. Mouth feel could have used a tinge more carbonation. Finishes dry and stays on the tongue for a bit.

De garde does it again!

Milky pale yellow-peach with essentially no head, as it foams up but rapidly dies off, settling quickly to a still looking beer, or even fruit puree.

Damn, I get all manner of powerful lemon! Holy shit...it's a really acidic sour of peaches and apricots with a note of sweet but earthy carrot juice in the background.

On tap at the brewery and again out of a bottle at home.

A clear light orange with a dense white head with decent retention, this looks great. The nose is a blend of lemony sounds, earthy and mushroom funk, moderate lactic character, a touch off cow pie and a mild white wine character. Not particularly saison like, there isn't much of the dry, crisp, cracker and spice that the clean versions exhibit. Mild stone fruit character with apricots present

The palate opens sour, juicy and lemony with semi ripe yellow peaches, dry and mineraly white wine, and a mild floral flavor. The mid palate keeps the focus on the sour elements, with preserved lemons, a mild lactic acid flavor. Oak add a touch of vanilla. Drying and sour on the finish with a lingering apricot flavor, this is juicy and refreshing. Pretty darned excellent.

The aroma offers nectarine, orange zest, Sweet Tart candy, and a light funk.

The flavor follows with nectarine juice, apricot, citrus zest and citrus seeds, more funk, more Sweet Tarts with a dry finish.

Bottle shared by Matthew. Thanks man!

Pale yellow body, mild to medium haze with a fleeting white apex. Aromas of barnyard funk, lemon, grapefruit rind, and a general outdoors summer quality. Piquant, elegant, tart, delicious. Another lovely beer from de Garde.

Tasted 10 Jan 2015.

Pours a cloudy medium wheat yellow. Little head, gone quick, no lacing. Not surprising for a sour, but still on the low side.

Smell is light and fragrant, vinous like white wine.

Taste is lovely. Not as clean or as complex as some of their other beers, but still really good. Solid lemony sour, hard to dig out the saison characteristics, though I think that's typical. Rounded and very fruity in the finish.

Feel is amazing. Light-bodied but mouth-filling, with sizzling carbonation that stirs, pops, and leaves me wanting more when it finally fades. Wow.

Really good stuff. Not de Garde's best, but that's a high bar!
