750mL into a tulip. Pours a deep coppery straw color w/ a 1-finger head that dissipates quickly.

Aroma is bright and tart, crisp. Green apples, white wine, oak, vanilla.

Taste follows nose. Like biting into a Granny Smith apple that's been soaking in Riesling. Pear, oak, vanilla, and light toasty grain. Vinous, delicious.

Mouthfeel is crisp and clean, light, refreshing.

Overall, not surprisingly another hit from de Garde. Outstanding stuff.

750 mL bottle. Pours a clear golden body. Smells of strong grape, oak, yogurt, and a little acidity. Tastes pretty sour right up front. Almost acetic. Oak. Vanilla. Lots of sweet grape and white wine in the back end. Medium body. Solid golden sour with a hefty grape presence.

750 ml into a tulip.

The appearance is golden, hazy, with a bit of lacing.

The aroma and flavor are lemony, tart, winey, and green apples. I know this is a rye ale, but I don't pick up the flavors that I usually associate with rye beers. The fruitiness and tartness dominate. There's very good carbonation. Overall, it's a fun wild ale, not as sour or as unusual as many, and with a distinctive wine character to it.

-Color: Fizzy but quickly dissipating head. A very cloudy amber looking brew.

-Nose: You get that vinegar that you get with wild and sour ales as well as some lemony citrus. Cinnamon, almost like it was sprinkled on top of an apple pie. Possibly from the riesling grapes as I get green apples out of riesling all the time.

-Flavor: Sour upfront with a sweetness on the back end. You get a bit of the oak. I almost wished they aged it a little longer on the oak as its giving it a nice creaminess. A bit of caramel and vanilla flavor. I really don’t get the riesling on the palate. Just adds a bit of apple to the flavor perhaps retronasally.

-Rating: 3/5: This is a sour I would buy again and certainly makes me want to try more from De Garde. I liked the idea of this beer and the execution did not disappoint. My only qualm with it is that it could have been aged a bit longer. Either by me waiting a bit to drink this one or even just De Garde having it in the oak a bit longer as I really enjoyed the flavors it imparted.

-Cheers!

On draft at Hunahpu's Day 2016.

Pale yellow, barely cloudy, no head to speak of.

A lot like a gose, with more of a sour cream essence, and a bit of lemon. Obviously, it stands to reason from those descriptors this is more of a lactic sour than anything else, although it isn't too powerful, even on that front.

Unremarkable really, so it was a bit of a disappointment for my first de Garde.

Poured from 750 ml into a tulip.

This was my first from de Garde. It didn't disappoint. I'm a little surprised by other recent reviews, because my bottle was full of sour punch with complex and no off-putting bad-funk aftertastes whatsoever. Very tartly acidic. Wine barrel flavor evident.

L - light yellow and clear, with head that dissipated immediately
S - can smell the sour
T - very tart, and I enjoyed it. A bit like sour patch kid candies with strong acidity up front shifting to sour-sweetness, and then grapes that have been in the sun. Full of great flavor!
F - not highly remarkable, a bit of fizz. Carbonation is light per the style.
O - very satisfied. I like a strong sour and this did not disappoint.
