Notes: A wild golden ale brewed with wheat, this was fermented and aged in very young French oak Cabernet puncheons before refermenting on Oregon Blueberries. Big spicy oak and fruit skin notes present as pronounced cinnamon and allspice, and lend a lingering tannic crispness. Not effusively fruity or sweet, this is a drier beer showcasing the barrel and skin characteristics.

On tap at the brewery tasting room yesterday.

The beer pours the expected reddish dark purple color with decent head retention and lacing. The nose is great, as I pick up considerable cabernet and blue beer, with a hint of vanilla and lime in the background. The cabernet aroma is surprisingly prominent in this beer. The flavor profile replicates the nose, and I appreciate the relatively low level sour component in this beer. As is typical otherwise, there's a huge fruit presence in this beer (the blueberry dominates, but there's considerable wine flavor in this beer), with some noticeable tannins on the finish as well (the finish is indeed quite dry). Mouthfeel is fairly light otherwise, and again, this beer doesn't drink like a 7% abv. beer (would guess something in the 4% to 5% range). So yes, the alcohol is very well integrated into the flavor profile.

Excellent, easy to drink beer. Unfortunately, the keg blew shortly after I ordered my glass, or I'd have gotten a second one. Good stuff!

Appearance: Pours the color of red wine with a blueberry juice hue; a fluffy head hangs around, splashing the glass with lace

Smell: Cabernet tones influenced by blueberry juice

Taste: Very fruity, with vinous Cabernet and blueberry flavors dominate; slight funk, tartness and oak tones underneath; the finish is rather dry

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Enjoyed the Cabernet/blueberry combination; this one is largely about the fruit

This one pours a gorgeous dark purple-ish blue, with a small head and lots of lacing.

This smells like bracingly sour blueberries, very lemon heavy acidity, Cabernet, and spicy oak.

This is quite sour, but it's a pretty powerful showcase of the blueberries, with a killer spicy oak finish. The Cabernet is subtle, as the sour blueberry character is fairly blinding, but it's there and it's tasty.

This is light bodied, crisp clean and very fruity, with a good level of carbonation.

Like many of de Garde's sours, this is a nuclear warhead of flavor.

Amazing beer! The Cab barrels pair so well with the blueberries, perfect carbonation. I need more!

Like all fruited de Garde beers, this one was great. Beautiful color and perfect carbonation, but the flavor was just not my fave. It was still very good, but blueberries are just always hard to work with. Though I get solid notes of berry, I felt like the flavor was somewhat medicinal and artificial, which seems very common for blueberry sours.
