Style: Belgian Witbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
This beer is the freshest to taste and the easiest to drink among others we offer, and it has also happened to be the best selling one. By using over 200lbs of fresh blood oranges in every batch, we came up with a beer that explodes with flavor yet balances its sweetness with just a pinch of tartness. It is this balance combined with an extraordinarily light wheat body that makes this brew perfect for any occasion, any time of the year!

I had this mix beer just out of a can. It pours a white head which disappears after a while. The first sip left a tangy rather tart taste in my mouth. I usually like wit beer or Hefeweiss, not this one. Further drinking was still overwhelmed by the tart blood orange flavor, It also felt weak/thin. If I want to mix a wit beer with a fruit soda - I could do this myself. The wit beer itself might be good if they would brew it without the blood orange.
4 cans for $7.98 -> too expensive - I won't buy it again

My wife calls it the "mimosa of beers," for good reason. Had it on draught in San Diego, where it is available all year. A really top notch breakfast beer that is very refreshing, but not at all short on flavor.

Color looks like one mixed Allagash White and Kona Brewing Wailua Wheat, with a touch of cloud. Flavor notes are complex and layered. First blush is traditional wit - on the lighter side. Then you get hit with a distinct orange flavor and a very clean finish. The carbonation really mimics the mouth feel of a properly made mimosa.

16 oz can. Pours clear straw gold with a small creamy white head that retains fairly well and leaves little lacing.

The aroma is sweet fruity orange creamsicle and wheat malts with a little bit of Belgian funk.

The flavor is sweet wheat malt with some Belgian funk and some fruit with a bit of an odd chemical finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, an OK wit.

Definitely a wit beer. Light bodied with a decent citrus bite. A good summer beer straight from the can. For the price, would probably pick up again.

16oz can poured into a pint glass. Judging form the warped top that looks like its about to explode, I'm guessing that this is over carbonated.

A- as expected, the beer pours almost all foam initially, eventually settling down to a 3-finger head on top. Hazy and cloudy straw colored body. It sounds like a bowl of rice crispies

S- strong aroma of citrus rind mixes with some floral hop notes, spicy and earthy yeast, toasted wheat & a hint of coriander, very nice aroma

T- juicy blood orange up front is slightly sweet-yet-tart eventually giving way to a crisp wheaty backbone with hints of coriander, floral hop and earthy yeast, dry finish with more orange on the linger

M- medium body with biting-yet-low carbonation follows through to the finish, leaviing a dry linger

O- there was obviously some carbonation issues with this batch, which is a shame because this is a crushable summer beer, perfect for outdoors

I haven't had this beer on tap yet, only out of the can. But just by pouring it, I have a feeling it may be best experienced from the can, poured into a glass. The aroma from is heavily orange/orange zest. The taste is genuine blood orange and is far from heavy. This is the best orange wheat beer I've had since Hangar 24s original recipe.

Refuge's Blood Orange Wit. 5% ABV.

A: About a finger and a half of white head. Opaque, hazy yellow in the glass. Hazy white in the dimple. Nice, solid, barely multi-tiered lacing. Solid sheeting.

S: Actually smells like blood orange flesh, with a bit of peel. Just a hint of hops.

T/MF: Hops are more noticeable in the mouth. Mostly grapefruit-y, which is a fitting choice. A bit ashy. Not much blood orange. Maybe a touch of pith and a hint of zest bitterness.

Not bad, but not great. Fairly average, really.

Poured from a 1 pt can, into a Belgian tulip glass.

Poured into a Sester stange. Pours a hazy straw with orange notes and a half finger white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of wheat, coriander, orange citrus, clove. Flavor is mild wheat, coriander, orange and orange rind; finishes with light orange rind bitterness, coriander. Light bodied with great peppery carbonation. Although fairly light for a witbier, the orange flavors are deftly handled and fit with the light wheat in the start, and are more pronounced, but still pleasant in the finish, revealing more fresh fruit and some residual spicing notes. Very nice looking, refreshing and a great orange take on a classic witbier. Enjoyable.

Belgian Style Wheat Beer 5.0% ABV | 16 IBU

This beer pours a hazy, gold with some light 1-2 inches of foamy head that vanished almost instantly.

This beer really lacks a profile scent for me. Usually, as a beer warms the profile really opens for me but with this beer I took on some light citrus that reminded me of limes.

This beer follows the nose for me. I don't catch much blood orange to be quiet honest. It is a light, refreshing beer that finishes with some citrus. No lasting taste and a malty profile for sure.

On the mouth this beer is very light and refreshing with medium carbonation. It goes down super easy but doesn't really leave anything making you want more.

Overall, this beer is a refreshing summer beer. I feel as if this is a beer you could easily drink 4 or 5 of without even noticing. It doesn't bring a ton of smell to the table but it does give you a nice citrusy almost floral finish. This is a good beer for any occasion and isn't really going to disappoint. Sang one for a day by the pool or relaxing in the sun.

Can at Enterprise Fish Co., Santa Barbara, CA

A: The beer is slightly hazy light yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high bright white head that upon settling down, left a thin layer of bubbles on the surface and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of wheat are present in the nose along with notes of blood oranges.
T: The taste follows the smell and has a bit more prominent flavors of blood oranges, but these aren't too strong and you can still taste the underlying wheat beneath the citrus.
M: It feels light- to medium- bodied on the palate and has a high amount of carbonation.
O: This is a good summer beer and has some refreshing properties. I liked how it still tasted like a witbier and the flavors of blood oranges where kept in check.

Received 4 cans from CA 12/19 - cannot find canning date.

Poured into pint glass

A: Pale, straw, orange-tint. Foamy white head with some retention.

S: Orange, orange soda, citrus

T: Blood orange, orange soda, light malt.

M: Very light, very carbonated, dry finish. Very drinkable.

Very refreshing witbier. Probably best in summer, but worked great for me right now. A very pleasant surprise.
