I feel compelled to review this, as the packaging tricked me in to believing this was a good beer.

Appearance was awful - it pours a very muddy brown, with a fizzy head that lasted about half a second. Instantly, this reminded me of early homebrew efforts. Aroma was more of the same - yeasty in an unflattering way, with a bit too much malt character. Drinking this was a chore - it definitely seems like the yeast wasn't allowed to finish. Booze and unfermented malt dominate. Overly bubbly and harshly carbonated.

Yuck. I tried, but I dumped most of this. Pretty label anyhow...

Popping the cork releases fruity aromas – primarily peach with a hint of fresh laundry, a hint of smoke, floral notes and some biscuit.
Or de Belgique pours a hazy peach color under a 2” bone-white moussey foam cap that descends to a very thick, lace producing film.
The attack starts with pear, peach, bubble gum over toffee malt flavors that finishes with a medium hop bitter emphasis on the end.
The alcohol is pretty much masked by everything else in the beer. The beer has a very smooth, creamy, rich and luscious texture giving it a very effervescent, medium body.

Serving: on tap, at the Blacklist taproom. Or de Belgique is hazy golden, with a big head, and generous lacing. The aroma is yeasty, just a little sweet, with mild spicing, and the taste is similar, with mild fruit (bananas?). This beer is a very good example of a Belgian strong pale ale, and could stand up in comparison with the more famous benchmarks of the style. It's well worth seeking out, for anyone who likes the style.

The ABV wasn't apparent while drinking it, but at 9.5%, you'll notice the effect of a couple of these.

Poured a clear, orange color with a small, short-lived head. It smelled fruity, estery and sweet with a hint of candy sugar. Sweet with a hint of tartness. Fruity flavors of apple and pear. A mild bitterness.

Note: the can I bought says the ABV is 7.5% not 9.5%

16oz can, no obvious freshness date, poured into a tulip
A: Golden/straw colored with a 1+ finger head that slowly settles
S: Malt, coriander, Belgian yeast, a bit muted
T: Matches the nose adding banana
M: Medium-bodied, somewhat sweet
O: A decent beer for the style but nothing particularly stood out

This beer pours a creamy, lighter golden color. Fairly clear. Head was fairly thick and frothy. Nice carbonation bubbles rising in the glass.
The nose is interesting, in a pleasing way. This beer almost smells like a wild ale. Some malt notes.
The taste is quite rich. Lots of flavors. I get, almost a fruity hint. I get nice malts. I don't really get any hops.
Full mouthfeel. Nice body. Nice creamy feeling going down.
Delicious beer.

A very pleasant beer! Pours a hazy gold with minimal white head. A slightly yeasty smell - like a good Belgian. Taste is more complex than the smell - bright and spicy on the front with a pleasant, mildly bitter aftertaste. Despite the ABV, not boozy. Mouthfeel is balanced - carbonation is perfect - a bit more than many Belgians. A solid beer!
