I really love the label art on this beer, though I wish I could say the same for the product inside. Overall, I found the coffee and cream flavors to be rather underwhelming. By no means is this beer a poor expression of the style, I was just hoping for more intensity of the flavors present.

Pours dark with a cream head. Light lace. Definite smell of chocolate tootsie roll that aftertaste people referring to as metallic tastes like to me of an aftertaste of smokiness like beef jerky. Very good

Nice roasty coffee in the nose, slight burnt/bitter coffee in the taste as well as some slight citrusy on the backend..wish there was more cream flavor as well as it being thicker in the feel..a solid coffee stout thou and my first beer from this local brewery

We pour this guy from the bottle into our Hop City pints. It shows a Coca Cola coloring, with deep maroon and chestnut hues when held directly under a lamp. It holds a one and a half finger tall head of cookie dough colored bubbles. This is fluffy, and stands tall for many minutes after the pour. Lacing is patterned, but thick as ever. No sediment noted. Our first impression on the nose is that it smells like a chocolate Tootsie pop. This is met by cooling, tinny metallics, synthetically sweet coffee bean roastiness, burnt chocolate and black malts, seaweed, light charcoal smokiness, hazelnut butter, maraschino cherry syrups, dried olive pits, rich and vegetal molasses, and a hint of stale banana bread. The taste proves that this is more coffee than it is cream. The former comes across as incredibly metallic and sharp, like a cut across the tongue with a piece of wet tinfoil. In reality, this comes from modestly roasted coffee malts and raw cocoa. Otherwise we are filled with notions of dark cherry skins, slick phenolic plastics, deeply roasted black malts, cloying banana esters, bright lactose sugar, synthetically sweetened coffee-flavored coffee creamer, charred marshmallows, wet river stone, buttercream, and pickled zucchini. The mouth is decidedly medium, but coats the mucosa like a much bigger beer might. This gives way to your classic chalky, stouty dryness before soft rumbles of booze emanate from your bowels. The abv is appropriate, and the beer drinks fine.

Overall, this is a tasty brew from a reasonably local NY state producer that is relatively new to the scene, but we felt its particular drinkability was hindered by too much lactose-driven sweetness on the back end. The flavor that really comes across here, is a disgustingly (in a nice way) burnt marshmallow flavoring, again, spawned from a combination of the coffee bean, roasty maltiness, and the generous heaps of lactose thrown into the beer. The nose is probably the most impressive thing about it, as this comes across as serious, and well-seasoned. The rest seems a bit slapped together and rough about its edges. While it’s likely that we won’t soon buy this again, we would certainly pull off the highway and visit next time we’re passing through this part of the state.

A: [4.00] Forms just under a finger of tan head. The head starts to dissipate pretty quickly leaving a thin layer with some nice lacing. The beer is a dark cola color. The bottle lists the ABV (6.0%). I can't find a date code.

S: [4.00] Cold black coffee with sugar. The coffee is really pronounced and intensifies as it warms.

T: [4.50] The milk stout comes through giving a really nice sweetness to the beer. The coffee comes in over the top of this and makes the flavor really nice all the way through.

M: [3.25] The mouthfeel is a little thinner than I'd expect. There is also a ashy drying thing going on that is not fantastic.

O: [3.75] This is a really tasty beer. I love coffee forward stouts. My only hangup is the ashy mouthfeel. I am not sure what is causing it. IT is not something I have experienced before. It is keeping this beer from being excellent. I will drink more of these to "research" the mouthfeel.

It pours black with somewhat of a red tinge and a nice beige head. The aroma is of coffee and burnt bread. The taste is similarly of coffee with a dark chocolate bitterness-sweetness balance. Personally I did not taste any of the lactose. A nice Stout.

12 oz bottle poured into a Delerium Tremens snifter. No date information found on bottle.

Pours pitch black with a full finger of mocha foam that fades quickly without lacing. Sweet aroma fills the room, and the beer gives of a lot of dark roast coffee smells as well. First sip sweet, thin bodied, with a metallic aftertaste. Expected this beer to have a lot of roasted bitterness by the smell, but it is surprisingly smooth instead.

I'd prefer this if there was a little more viscosity / body. There is lactose sweetness but it leaves a tinny aftertaste without some more body to support. The coffee really doesn't come through as much as the nose would suggest.

This beer has some positive qualities, but could use a little more refinement to showcase more coffee and tie the flavors together better.

Kuka Coffee + Cream Stout looks like it's missing one of those two things; entirely black, this beer sheds not a single drop of colour regardless of the angle it's held against the light. The head that forms is pretty dark too: it's not fresh-fallen snow, it's the stuff still caked onto the curb days later.

Anyone who celebrates Christmas is familiar with that notorious box of chocolates, the one usually given by a distant relative or as an unimaginative hostess gift. This smells like that. It's a nice aroma but not one that requires overthinking; milk chocolate shell and creamy truffle center are direct and on display.

The taste, however, is all coffee - well, coffee and cream (duh). And I'm not talking instant powder and skim milk - I mean heavy dark roast and full fat cream. As rich as that profile sounds, however, the beer is surprisingly light-bodied. Lactose imparts vanilla in the aftertaste but otherwise there's little else.

Flavours are well-focused but not put under a microscope. Put another way, it has character but not complexity, which makes it a stout equally suited to a social evening with friends or a quiet night in. It's also worthy of serving with dessert, though it's more easy-drinking than typical after dinner tipples.

Accurate though they are, descriptions of truffles, coffee and cream make this Kuka offering sound like a bit more of a treat than it actually is. But while lacking in some of the nuanced, denser qualities we've come to expect from American stouts, it is nonetheless a really pleasant offering that I'd buy again.

From 08/09/15 notes. On tap at Pony Bar UES.

Pours a dark brown color with one inch of dark tan head and low carbonation evident. Very good nose, though the taste is much lighter. Roasted malts, sweet chocolate, cream, bready malts, wheat, and light espresso. . Little thin in the mouthfeel and body, and low carbonation.

Overall a decent beer, but light in the taste. Very good smell, worth checking out.
