Poured to a medium head with a tan color which has god retention and some lacing. Color was a nice dark brown to mahogany color. Aroma was very sweet and fruity with strong notes of banana and malt. Taste was sweet and fruity with strong banana and some malt and chocolate notes with a hint of spice. Nice medium to full mouth feel with a dry bitter / sweet aftertaste.

The smell is very banana-like. The taste is like a liquid banana Laffy Taffy candy, with a slight nutty aftertaste. Decent tasting, but I cannot see myself reaching for this all that often. Worth a try.

This is an exquisite beer. It leaves a wonderful feeling on the palate of light banana and notes of rich walnut. It's a lovely brown color and not too malty. If you're a fan of banana nut muffins you will love this.

5 oz on tap at Top Hops NYC

A- Mid brown
S- Banana, pecans, malts
T- Boom, the banana hits, but then is washed by malts and toasted nuts. Vivid imagination of digging into banana bread. Spot on.
M- Good, medium brown

O- loved the 5 oz pour, but could get too much too fast.

Andean Brewing Co. "Kuka - Banana Nut Brown Ale"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle without freshness dating
$2.49 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: Very dark brown but not to the point of becoming black. It's mostly clear with glowing orange highlights at the base of the glass. The head has already died down to just a thin tan collar. Disappointing in that respect. The aroma is surprisingly chocolatey - I was expecting banana. The flavor, however, offers a good deal of banana. It's not fake, although there is some "natural banana flavor added", and it's not sweet, it's more like a just turning ripe banana. And that mixes well with the lightly cocoa-ish and nutty malt. I'm really quite surprised at how good this is! To be able to get that balance is pretty amazing; and I should also have noted earlier that real bananas are used as well as the flavoring. There's something else to it as well. There's a light touch of some other fruitiness from the yeast (apples, berries), and some clove, but more importantly, something that's almost spicy - I'm guessing that's the Maca root but I'm not sure as I've never tasted it. It's medium bodied and gently crisp across the palate. It's got a moderate bitterness yet it still finishes dry, nutty, toasty, and almost roasty. Nothing is overdone, and the flavors come forward in a progression: cocoa, banana, fruit, clove, spiciness, moe cocoa, nuts, bitterness, more green banana, walnuts, spice. I'm pleasantly surprised, and the head retention and lacing are it's only downfalls, but I assume that's due to the lower carbonation that's there, and which is probably necessary to get the flavors to balance correctly. I was expecting it to be gimmicky but it's actually probably the best banana nut brown ale I've ever had. Also, I thought it would be banana with a brown ale backing but it's really not, it's a solid English-style brown ale with added banana character that gives it an added dimension. It's unique and interesting, and although it's not a beer I'd want to have all of the time I'd certainly enjoy one every now and again. Well done! Kudos to Kuka!

A - Dark cola brown pour with a tan colored foam. Lacing rolls down the glass. Foam retention is solid.

S - Strong notes of fresh banana, and some caramel. Light malt aroma finishes off an impressive smell.

T - Certainly tastes like bananas. Notes of caramel and pecans make this a tasty brown ale. Finish has a malty sweetness.

M - I found while this was a nice beer, I could not see myself having more than one. Too sweet to be sessionable.

O - Great beer to have for banana flavoring. Similar to Wells, but with more flavor at the expense of being less smooth.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on August 30, 2014.

It pours a dark brown with a lingering tan head that leaves plenty of lacing as it fades.

That aroma is something else! Bananas, nuttiness, and roasted chocolate. No bitter hops to talk about but these other esters are fascinating as a team.

Medium body.

And here come those bananas in the taste which jump out in front of the pack. The nuttiness and chocolate characters express themselves but not as forward as the bananas. To me this is what craft beer is all about. Merging together some unexpected ingredients and seeing what happens. And in this case it was a success. Not my regular cup of tea (or pint of beer) but definitely interesting.
