i dig this one, as simple as it is, its tasty and its light in both abv and in body, so its one of those ones you drink all day everyday, definitely more of a summer thing. probably not one that is dynamic enough to keep me stoked for more than a few days of heavy drinking, but i do like how light this is. the yeast is really mild for a saison, not overly fruity or spicy or even funky, more like a belgian mild ale, if such a thing exists in that way. carbonation is awesome and the finish is awfully clean for the style. hops are light, but definitely bitter this up a little all the way through it. pale yellow beer, the grain profile is fresh but extremely light, pushing too light, but i love a session craft beer that isnt an ipa right now, so this really fits with what i am into at the moment. i have to keep my eye out for more beer from these guys, this is a solid refresher

I ordered this beer as part of a 4 part flight since I had never been to Penrose before. Each beer was 6 oz. in size, so they were all decent sized pours. This beer features a clear, pale straw color with a white head that is 1 finger in height and dissipates quickly to a very thin lacing. 3.5/5 White bread, jarred yeast, lightly toasted barley, grass, light stone fruit, green grapes, banana, and clove make up the notes that I get on the nose. Fairly Belgian-esque due to the yeast profile and really a complex aroma with nice layers. 4/5 The taste of the beer follows the nose dead on with the light malt and white bread leading the way prior to the banana and clove coming in. Light stone fruit and green grapes then make a brief sweet and fruity appearance before the grassy hops finish things off with a light lingering bitterness. 3.75/5 This beer is light and crisp with very low carbonation (just a slight tickle). There is no drying during the sip or after. 4/5 Interestingly complex take on a Saison with this beer and an enjoyable take at that. The yeast profile throws me a bit but I'm not completely thrown since I have tasted Saisons with this type of yeast profile before (they're just not my ideal for a Saison). Good, light, flavorful beer, especially suited for a warm or warming day. 3.75/5

Tap pour at Lula's in Logan Square.

A: Pours a mellow gold with a nice white head.

S: Pretty traditional clean saison aroma. White cake, bit of coriander, nectarine esters.

T: Dryish and clean. Bit of vanilla, mild hop bitterness, white sugar. Mild.

M: Light-bodied with crisp carbonation.

O: A decent clean saison that's good for sessioning. Penrose could do something more interesting than this though.
