Nicely setup place with gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Small facility, primarily revolves around brewing, bottling, and of course, barrel storage. Staff was friendly despite a very busy day (Concealed Darkness release). Decent selection of beers on tap, theirs and South Street.

Small facility. Didn't get to try the food truck when there. Good selection of beers from both Blue Mountain and South Street. Friendly staff and good pricing. Definitely worth stopping by when in the area!

One of the most beautiful places you can drink beer from the tap. Gorgeous mountain views with hops growing out front. Was there at sunset during a beautiful summer evening. Great quality beers and fantastic service by the bartender lady. Selection here is limited, but there's something good in that selection no doubt.

Beautiful setting with large indoor restaurant pub space and large outside seating. We had tasty fish tacos and the place was packed on a Tuesday afternoon - and this brewery is in the middle of nowhere. The beer is outstanding. Make your own flight, and be sure to take a bottle or two home!

Finally had a chance to stop by Barrel House. Quiet rainy Saturday afternoon. Not much happening in brewery or tasting room. Offered a tour, but had come for beer this trip. Everything was fine, but very poor selection of barrel aged beers...only Local Species and Dark Hollow. Pretty disappointing. Nothing special and no one offs, etc. Would suggest you check ahead before visiting. At least on this day...waste of time.

I had the pleasure of visiting this new operation in the Blue Ridge Mountains during a recent camping adventure. Blue Mountain Barrel House is an offshoot of the original Blue Mountain brewpub about 30 minutes north in Vinton. It’s mostly a production facility, but the care they take with their beer here is noteworthy, as is the effort they’re putting forth into the space.
Every beer I tried here was of extremely high quality. Even the kolsch had a pleasant full-bodied mouthfeel to it. It wasn’t thin and sweet like so many American versions tend to be. The hoppier options were a bit on the bitter side for my tastes, but you could definitely taste the love that went into the craft. My favorite part about the operation has to be the barrel-aging program. They’ve created some really nice, interesting, unique beers through the use of bourbon and oak barrels.
On the day we visited, there was a live jazz band from Charlottesville entertaining the small crowd and a pretty decent food truck specializing in properly made pizza. I was told by a local sharing a picnic table that they’re trying to host such events most weekends during the summer and to be a part of the community. Kudos.
They’ve made the tasting room space quite attractive as well. A lot of woodwork has gone into the bar and tasting area – including some awesome tables and chairs. Plus, there is no nicer setting than the valley at the foot of the national forest. And to top it all off, all of the draft pours are $4, with the lone exception of the bourbon stout, which is $5. It’s a great value for an awesome place with exceptional beers.
