Notes: When you brew as much as we do, sometimes we get tired of telling the yeast what to do. For Apex Predator Farmhouse Ale, we pitch the yeast cold, turn off the temperature control, and let the yeast do it's thing. To our delight, it spat out the sweet scent of juicy fruit wafting from a frothy, white mane. Brewed only with grain and sugar unencumbered by the heat of the kiln, we create a hazy, golden body. Apex Predator gets its teeth from a generous Crystal dry-hopping that completes the dry finish with a fruity bite. Pounce on the opportunity to let it part your lips and you may find yourself at the top of the food chain.

12 oz bottle unsure of date

Pours dark yellow, slightly hazy

Smells of sweet berry, cider, yeast

Taste: rich berries, a little tartness, dry apple, the banana flavor you get from a hefe, a little citrus and a touch of dry hops

Feel- medium, nice bubbles, rich

Overall excellent. My first off color. Easy drinking, lots of layers to this. Great and interesting farmhouse offering that's a little tart, tiny bit of funk, fruity, a little hops on the end.

Bottle. Pours cloudy and pale yellow. The head is large and strong. It retains with stubbornness. Light scars of lacing. The aroma is very exciting. It smells funky and has a pronounced lemon character. Sourdough and grains and light Belgian yeast phenols. The flavor is interesting. The Belgian yeast character is noticeable but not overpowering, thankfully. The funk found in the nose is set to a similar intensity. Just a slight hint of sourness. Lemons and homemade cider. Hay and soft spice. All parts are balanced. Body is fairly light. Carbonation nearing soft. I enjoy this brewery's look, their style preferences and their product quality. Another nice Off Color beer.

pours a glorious cloudy amber with a nice white head.

Aroma is of breads and Belgian yeast funk.

Taste is GLORIOUS. Malty, phenolic, spicy. Truly one of my top 5 beers of all time. Try this one, you won't be disappointed.

Better than most beers out there. It is a classic farmhouse style ale, similar to a farmhouse saison, and pulls so many interesting characteristics from the hops. The fact that they can list literally all of their ingredients on the label is of course not to be overstated either. Overall an absolute legend of a beer, and to be honest, hoppy beers are 100% hype most of the time. Personal opinion.

2015 vintage; drank 11/6/15 @ the Yarchives.

Poured from the bottle into a glass.

Cloudy yellow appearance.

Small bright white head; strong lace.

Lemon, banana & faint honey notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Banana & lemon zest flavors up front; faint black pepper bite on the finish. Not my favorite style, but this was a very enjoyable example.

I have been to quite a few breweries from eight cities. I have yet to find something as delicious and consistently worth my time. I know it's only n opinion, but this beer is my number one. By a landslide.

Look: It pours pale gold with a white head. There is some lacing.

Smell: It has a horse blanket, earthly aroma with orange, and citrus.

Taste: It has a sweet bite for the initial taste with a bit a tart. There are flavors of orange, and citrus. The spices are low-moderate. There are also earthly flavors as well.

Feel: It has a moderate feel with high carbonation. It has a dry finish with a spicy aftertaste.

Overall it is a strong fruity, slight tart ale with a dry finish.

Appearance: Bold finger of head on the pour. Sticky random lacing left behind at each level. Cloudy, murky light orange color. Active carbonation, but probably on the lower side for a saison.

Smell: Lemongrass and a slight peppery nose hit the drinker first. Bready, airy yeast forms a pleasant body with well balanced hop notes. Touch of honey sweetness on the back end rounds it out.

Taste: Sprite, bright fruits hit the palate first. Lemons, prairie grass, and traditional yeast flavors make up the body. Flavors transition well off of each other create a balanced easy going saison.

Mouthfeel: Carbonation is on the lower side for a saison but nothing is lost with this incredibly drinkable saison. Sweet malts, bready yeast, and bright fruity hops all mesh well together and linger on the palate long after drinking.

Overall: Another awesome brew from Off Color. Crushable summer saison that hits all the checkpoints I look for in a great saison. I will continue to give these guys my money.

From a 355 ml bottle into a tulip. No date that I could find.

A-The beer has almost two fingers of white head from a normal pour. There is some lacing left behind as the head fades. The beer is sunny and bright straw-colored without much in the way of visible carbonation. A murk obscures the view through the glass.

S-The aroma is on the lighter side with lemon, spice, dough, Belgian yeast, and some dried grass. The smell fits the style profile, but is nothing spectacular.

T-The taste is similar to the smell, but better. Flavors include lemon (which gives just a bit of tartness), a light spice mixture, some Belgian yeast, dried grass, and a bit of musty white grape. The beer has a nice, complex mixture of tartness and doughy, spicy, sweeter flavors.

M-The heft is medium to light with semi-crisp, active carbonation. A nice example of the style.

O-This is a very enjoyable beer. Like the other offerings I have had from Off Color, this beer drinks well without trying too hard to impress with a bunch of alcohol or odd flavors. I would happily drink this again, preferably sitting outside in the sunshine of a warm summer day.

This is a very good beer. Pours with a good head from the flaked wheat and is a light yellow color that is slightly hazy. It has tons of bubbles that is refreshing. The malt and hops blend nicely. The hops just come through to make things interesting and give it a lemony kick at the end, but still very much a Farmhouse ale with lots of wheat/malt on the front.

Look: Pours a hazy straw yellow color with a two finger, rapidly disappearing, eggshell head.

Aroma: I'm getting apricots, bananas, clove, peaches and lemon zest. There's a mild spicy, pine resin note.

Taste: Dry and soapy upfront with floral flavors of parsley, cilantro and the bitter taste of grapefruit. Spicy notes of white pepper here and there. There's a tart, orange, lemon and banana flavor to complement the bitterness, along with some sweet notes of bready malt and honey that play a supporting role in the background. Finishes spicy, dry and sweet.

Feel: The beer is unfiltered and the yeast floating around in the brew gives some weight to the body. Mid-heavy feel with low carbonation. Very quaffable and hearty.

Overall Comments: Bitterness, dryness and spice is kept in check by a subtle, bready malt bill with notes of honey. Well balanced and quite enjoyable. A very promising saison.
