Notes:
If you’ve been waiting for a beer label with boxing meerkats, you’re gonna be happy. If you’re a fan of low ABV beers, you’re also gonna be happy.
Next up in the “Beer for” series is Beer for Lightweights, an extra fancy light beer inspired by Belgian table beers. An all malt base adds hints of cereal grains within the mineral water mouthfeel. Warm fermentation with a saison yeast creates notes of white grape juice and is accompanied by gentle hop flavors of orange flesh and grapefruit. The beer finishes dry but bright with a hint of acidity giving this session beer enough backbone to hold its own with most meals.

Being a Big Fan of Off Color, I was too eager to drink this. I should have had it for lunch, as so should you.
Beer for Lightweights provides proof of one of my favorite theories of ales: just make one major change in a good recipe and it improves the chances that the one major change also will be a success. In this case, Off Color is one of North America's top makers of saisons. But they decide to test a light saison, one with two-thirds less ABV... a major change. I'm sure they adapt a few other elements of their winning recipes. But basically, Lightweights seems a success... as long as I have it with lunch... which I intend to do soon. Success per popularity, not so much as only 129 ratings on UnTappd; but per their average, roughly, we agree.
And as for Off Color's sense of humor, Lightweights' slug of "Extra Fancy Light Beer" is laden with yuks.
7/31/22 Had it with lunch and I was correct: Lightweights makes lunch better... particularly with summer fare of sandwich and salad. Cuts the vinegar. Now, for my nap.
