Style: Gose

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.30%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Most brewers spend a lot of time and effort keeping lactobacillus out of their breweries; it was the first thing we brought in (it still has to stay in the corner though). We blend together two different beers to make Troublesome. The first is a somewhat uninteresting wheat beer and the second is an overly acidic & funky beer fermented solely with lactobacillus. We blend the two beers together with coriander and salt at the tail end of fermentation to create a mild, lemony tartness and a fuller sensation of mouthfeel. And yes, it's hard to make.

L: A nice off pearl, light honey, cloudy beer, no head

S: Grapefruit zest, citrusy, acidic, smell radiates from glass

T: Nice zesty citrusy, salty and sweet taste. Tart cactus and grapefruit.

F: A full bodied Gose with good carb and a nice finish. Would like slightly more carb.

O: A great Gose that checks all the boxes.

12oz. bottle into a Surly teku. Shared by schen9303.

Bright goldenrod with a huge fluffy head and excellent lace. Perfect. The nose is bright and prickly. Hints of coriander, peppercorn, lemon zest and cane sugar. More saison than gose. Beer opens moderately funky and bready. Hints of coriander and peppercorn spice with a light citrus tartness. Drinkable and a fluffy foam flavor. Body is light with ample carbonation. Prickly but frothy on the palate and quenching and wet going down.

Pretty good. Again, more saison than gose but pretty solid nevertheless.

12 Oz pour into a wine glass

A; light tight small bubbled head. Body is a good clarity light yellow gold.

S: Nose has a ton of citrus and coriander some lemon and a little funk.

T: Very light sweetness followed by some orange tangerine a little honey a light bit of funk

M: Creamy smooth a little to the fuller side.

O: it's an odd Gose. It drinks more like a sweet heavy bodied Saison. It is still a great beer but not what I was expecting.

12 oz

Pours a slightly hazy lemon gold, white lacing for a head.

Smells of tart apple and lemon with saltine cracker malt.

Flavor is of citrus, apple, banana and light bready malts. Hint of sea salt in the finish.

Light body with light tingly carbonation on the roof of the mouth.

Tasty tart wheat beer, good flavor. Drinks very easy and very sessionable. Tartness is mild. Worth a try for fans of sour and wheat beers. This is very wheat forward for a sour and tastes like a hybrid of sour and hefeweissen.

This beer is what turned me on to goses and sours in general, so I have a very special place in my heart for it. Funky, sour, salty, spicy -- it has a little bit of everything flavor-wise. The color is nice and bright golden and the aroma is sweet and sour, a hint of what's to come. Of all of the goses I've had, this one is still my old standby. You can't go wrong with a Troublesome.
