Taster at Loyal Legion. Pale golden pour, thin skin of head. Sweetish bready aroma, taste goes back to the grain base, biscuity. Finishes sweet and citrusy.

In a world where Farm-to-Table is all the rage, the brewers at Agrarian ales challenges the freshness of even this mantra with a field-to-fermenter approach, using their select hops with organic ingredients for a farmhouse ale taste that's truly agrarian.

Pale gold and capped with a cottony froth, Field Beer pours with radiance and exuberance. Spicy, yeasty and layered with dried fruit, the scent trends winey and peppery with an overall floral scent. A mild mannered sweetness washes over the tongue with wafer, fresh bread, honey and sourdough to give the palate a malt forward introduction.

With the carbonation providing a creamy but bubbly pop on the tongue, the effervescence carries away the malt sweetness and highlights the fruit and spice balance that intertwine on middle palate. Apple, pear, lemon, pear and melon seem in the dehydrated vein with a spiciness of white pepper, clove, cumin and an overall vinous spice balances the fruit and takes an edge off of the lingering malt. Growing bitterness leaves the ale crisp, refreshing and characterful even in its last sip.

Medium bodied but trending dry, the alcohol, hop resins as yeast spices work together to ensure a palatable, drinkable session with complexity and balance without seeming forced nor intense. There's no other style of beer that tastes more like terroir than the farmhouse ales of southern Belgium and northern France; and the Agrarian Ales team nails the Saison with this beer.

This is a simple (likely SMASH) beer in which the grain bill and hops schedule remain the same and the yeast changes. Have had with Abbey yeast and second time with Saison yeast - both great session beers. I make the drive for the field bier and pizza but many of their beers are worth the trip.
