Dense forests demand sharp blades. Worn, torn, chipped or rusted, the Bolo shepherds the path. Later still, this tool of ancient times takes on the tiring task of harvesting the hidden fruit of the tropics. Behold the complexity of simplicity, a clean brown ale rife with 9 barley malts, oats and brown sugar. Gasp at the profound aroma produced by a hefty addition of real coconut. Enjoy an aroma that reminds you of tropical granola with a smooth maltiness that hints at chocolate and nuts. Baked in our kettle, cured to perfection.

I tried a pint of this beer off the tapper at a Market place in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. It poured a dark amber with off white head that left some lace. The scent had chocolate and coconut notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with semi sweet dark chocolate malt base with grain and coconut presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body and had good carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

Tropical, clean, easy drinking. The kind of dark beer you can drink year round. It doesn’t hit you over the head with the coconut flavor. Genuinely balanced, not just for a dark beer, but just for a beer.

(12 oz bottle, no date/code; purchased single off shelf at State Line this week... poured into my Sapwood stemless wine glass)
L: dark, burgundy-brown liquid; huge foam build, tight, moussy, w/ bubbly cap... keeps a messy cap, lacing more and in broader bands than expected
S: Almond Joy with a roasty-nutty accent, also some burnt sugar elements reminiscent of a dark rum... definitely dominantly 'brown' in its aromas... invitingly bold in overall intensity
T: coconut-forward, semi-sweet, with a bold, near-bracing, vaguely tea-tannic, roast-soiled bitterness booming behind it... aftertaste is relatively dry, with the roasted grain continuing to hum, smolder even... perhaps some earthy hop noise in there, hints of black peppery spice... at the end, spilled a little white rum in it, quite nice
F: the residuals have some vague coconut oil slickness going on... medium-bodied, thick, lacking roundness... I don't mind, and even rather enjoy, a nectary malt sludge in a brown ale like this... thankfully only subtle booze heat
O: not bad as a brown ale... I would have this again... luckily it's properly malty and has enough abrasive roast to balance out any overtly sweet or sugary expressions... very few beers get the coconut thing right, and it's right in this (2264)

12 oz bottle from the Wall of Beer in Clemson SC ($3.49).
Appearance. A very dark reddish-brown body with a short, fizzy and partially short-lived beige head.
Well crafted but this would be rather run-of-the-mill were it not for the light touch of coconut.

Decent brown ale - looks great, smells decent, and it’s one I’ll be glad to have again.

Look: The quintessential Brown Ale. Cola brown liquid with an off-white head. The head dissipates very quickly. Has some bubbly lace fingers on there glass.
Smell: Chocolate and coconut.
Taste: Great blend of maltiness with above mentioned chocolate and coconut. Slightly sweet for the average brown ale which is a good thing.
Feel: Got that brown ale seltzer thing going on. But it is quite refreshing.
Overall: One of the most enjoyable brown ales I have ever had. I believe I'll have another. Thumbs up!

Doesn't sound good on the surface and makes one think of the likes of peanut butter & jelly stout or passion fruit/guava hazy ipa. But it's not and works fantastically well as the base of flavors for a beer of this style. Recommended

Very nice and not too heavy. The coconut is subtle, not overpowering. Perfect on a crisp evening.

Picked up a can with lunch at Rhu, a bakery in Asheville. Perfect complement to lunch. Not heavy but good nutty flavor. Scent is robust and taste follows. Good mouthfeel and smooth finish.

Poured from the can into a nonik pint glass.
Light tan forming three finger head, big bubbled like swiss cheese and some retention. Very dark and walnut brown colored body, with a little watery sheen on top, slightly oily.
Aroma is a bit unexpected but good. More of a nutty almond than coconut flavor, mixing with milky chocolate tones and nuts. Mild roast character as well. Seems straightforward.
Palate provides some real unexpected pleasures. Almost creamy, but a simple nutty and roast backbone gives up the goods. Darker chocolate with a creamy nutty flavor in the mid palate. Hints hazelnut and almond quality, with a real good bitting hop taste that brings out some carbon flavors also. Good biting finish almost earthy mint in a way as well.
Real enjoyable brown ale, with a unique flavor profile.

Picked up a 12 oz can from the Blue Door Bottleshop 6-28-21 for $3.00. Canned 04JUN2021; consumed 8-10-21.
Beer poured brown with an okay off white head.
Nose is a touch of mild roasted malts and a hint of coconut sweetness.
Taste is toasted malts with some toffee and a touch of coconut sweetness balanced nicely by an adequate hop addition.
Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and smooth.
Overall a tasty spin of the American Brown style!

On tap, pint serving.
Pure as can be deep brown color. Red wine colored highlights. Thin cap, polka dot lacing.
Coconut coffee roast. Sweetness from brown sugar and molasses. Malt roasted to perfection.
Lots of coffee and chocolate and coconut flavors from the roasted malts. Slightly metallic.
Thin and clean. Low carbonation. Smooth, a touch sweet. Roasted.
Well rounded with enough hops to balance the sugar.
