Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.30%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The oldest of trees beckon the widest of blades. But the biggest require the help of a gang of blades, teaming up to provide the deepest array of cuts. This DIPA is born from an arsenal of ingredients. A pils base is fortified with NC-malted wheat, while Amarillo, Mandarina Bavaria, Simcoe, and other hops feed off the tropical juiciness of a house wild yeast. Expect tangerine, pineapple and mango from this super hop juice.

Appearance: very hazy orange color with a 1/2" head that slowly falls to a thin surface foam.

Smell: light tropical aroma.

Taste: biscuit, mango, pineapple, orange, lemon zest, cracked pepper, and a strong bitterness. Alcohol is lightly noticeable.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp to start, less crisp and quite dry at the finish.

Overall: slow sipping DIPA that is centered around big bitterness and tropical fruit.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a 1 pint can on March 4, 2018. Brewed with pilsner malt and NC-malted wheat. Hopped with Amarillo, Mandarina Bavaria and Simcoe. Smell and taste is tropical juiciness with notes of tangerine, pineapple and mango. Feel is medium in body.

Wow, awesome beer. Memorable taste and clean finish. Crisp and delicious, no funkiness. Not overly floral or piney, but juicy and clean.

Unknown vintage; drank 3/4/18 @ the Yarchives.

Cloudy orange appearance.

A violent pour yielded a big white head; strong, frothy lace.

Lemon, pine, grapefruit & cane sugar notes in the nose.

Sticky, medium thick mouthfeel.

Caramel, pine & lemon flavors up front; sticky sugar notes on the finish.

Cloying & clashing. Permanent pass on this one.

I was excited to try this at Terrestrial Brewing in Cleveland, but was very disappointed. This tastes like an IPA circa 2004, mildly sweet and rather malty. Hops are faded, mouthfeel is thin, alcohol is unnecessarily present for an 8.5% brew and the whole thing is just blah... bad keg or mediocre beer?

Can date 12/8/17

Copper-gold, clear appearance with a .5 cm head on a normal pour. 2/3 ring of carbonation and islands remain, spotty lacing.
Strong mango, tangerine, apricot, and malt scent.
Peppery citrus and malt up front, mango appears on the back of the tongue. Light pine, very little malt.
Light bodied, dry finish, smooth, little alcohol warming.
Nice flavor combination, the 16 oz. can disappears rapidly. Happy to have this available fresh.
