Notes: A yearly reminder that anything less, is simply not to be. Each year we push a new boundary with our beloved cherry sour ale, and the aging of our wood cellar enabled a new level this year. A blend of 1, 2 and 3 year old red sour ales each aging in different red wine barrels makes up the base. After blending, the cuvee was re-fermented upon a mix of Michigan-grown Balaton and Queen Anne black sweet cherries. This year's mix is an ode to doughy cherry pie, young Syrah, and herbs de provence tarts.

This beer was excellent with the food served at the brewery. Visited as part of 60th birthday celebration! Beautiful beer with a deep, rich reddish brown color with excellent head and curtain lacing. Fragrant red wine smell and taste, herbal. Tart cherries. Pepper and maybe a bit of sage. This is definitely something to repeat. Another excellent beer from this brewery.

500 mL bottle. Red body. Smells of strong red wine and vinous acidity. Cherries in the background. Tastes very briefly of breast and caramel malt with a bit of dark fruit acidity. Immediately gets taken over by red wine, red wine sourness, and sour cherries. Cherries flavor is bright and sweet, but still very sour. Medium body. Sourness makes it tough to drink. I was hoping for something more balanced. Did not finish the bottle.

Death and the Miser from Burial Beer has all the characteristics of a traditional Kriek. A perfect balance of sweet and tart from the cherries, and funky from the various oaky wine barrels.

Hazy dark reddish color with light pinkish head. Tart fruits, cherry preserve and some almonds on the nose. Tart, fruity, quite juicy with cherries and almond notes. Medium body and carbonation. Quite nice, easy drinking, slightly acetic.
