An Imperial Stout brewed with Lactose and molasses sugar 85% of Houtenhamer was Brandy barrel-aged for six months and then Bourbon barrel-aged for an additional six months. After aging in the barrels for a total of a year this imperial stout was then blended with 15% young steel-aged stout.

Appearance: Pours almost black with a wispy tan film that fades to a few bubbles around the circumference; leggy but no lacing
Smell: The Brandy and Bourbon barrels join with molasses and roasted malt tones to set the aromatic profile; a hint of sweet cherry
Taste: Sweetness from the molasses sugar spreads across the palate with the Brandy barrel becoming pronounced; sweet cherry elements emerge from the Brandy with the Bourbon kicking in, after the swallow; caramel flavors join in the finish
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low carbonation; quite thick with warmth in the gullet
Overall: I like the double barrel concept here but, as with most stouts that have a sweet flavor profile, this one wears out its welcome about half way through the bottle
