This brewery-only one-off (although I just heard a rumor that they're going to make more) is the fourth installment in the Experimental Hop Circus Series. It is a moderately hazy, deep-gold IIPA that seethes with copious amounts of fine carbonation; the thin, brief-lived creamy white head leaves fair bands and ladders of lacing. The aroma is medium-big, leading with toasty malt and sweet, sweet grapefruit, which are backed by a delicious blend of sweet and more subtle perfumey florals with hints of cannabis and pineapple juice; light alcohol overtones top things off. Up front, the flavor is a slightly bitter blend of cool cucumber and cantaloupe with hints of cannabis and grassiness. Mid-palate the malt manifests as a modest bittersweet nutty character that interacts with the hop flavors in an attention-getting manner, producing a unique, quite refreshing flavor that could belong to some as-yet-undiscovered tropical tree-melon. The finish is a significant hit of this flavor and a bit of booze; the linger is a modest melony pine bitterness that lasts for a good while. Retrogustative olfaction is ultra-grassy. Mouthfeel is biggish for the light body, and is moderately astringent; the texture is slick, medium-creamy and mildly peppery from the slightly-understated carbonation. (22 oz bottle, no code date)
