I try to stop in whenever I'm staying in Oxford. Ambiance is good, food is solid, and the local ales are quite enjoyable.

Fun place to hang out, especially if you're a big Tolkein or Lewis fan... my buddies and I are and we may or may not have acted like children playing make believe that we were them while we had a couple pints. A little spendy, but no more so than most pubs in England. Great place to hang out, nice serving staff.

As far as atmosphere goes, it's tough to beat the spot where C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien met over the course of a couple decades. Referred to as the "Bird and Baby" by locals, the beer and food selection is fairly standard. Highly recommended.
